about 4 days ago now I squished the life out of my old ibook g4. This is the first time I've been on the internet since then. I'm on a library dell computer and I have about 52 minutes left before my library computer use time-limit expires and I must give up my seat to some other person. Fuuck!

I will be needing a new (to me) laptop. pronto.

I'm feeling a pull in several directions- I need to be able to do some web dev/photoshopesque stuff and if I could do some light cad work it would be fantastic. otherwise i buy something that will be suitable for surfing/word processing.

I think i want to go to the dark side and purchase a pc

money is a serious issue as I'm doing an internship and working for slaves wages.

most of my pc laptop experience has been with an older ibm thinkpad and i really liked it and would consider purchasing a used t43 or something. a t43 would be semi-suitable. an eeepc or some variant would be fun.

Any suggestions? wtf do i do?

also, aren't you going into architecture or something? I know a few architects and they all use PCs. I dunno if there's some standard software they use that requires it.

you're actually not too far from the truth. I was heavily sedated (including some grain belt) and i hit a patch of sand on my road bike. bah.

Toshiba is putting out laptops for pretty cheap. $650.00 can buy something nice.

portability is a must, but let's say i would like to keep grand totals under 1500. I need something powerful. I'm semi thinking about purchasing an eeepc or a used laptop for about 400 and using the rest to build something swell. Yes? No? Do i just buy a decent and new laptop for 1500?

hey it was in a pretty nice case and in my backpack.

if you know someone with a costco membership maybe you can find a good deal there on something you find suitable

I'm thinking of picking up a netbook but there are too many contenders with the Eee PC (all of which look more promising) but they are all due to be out around September.

Not an emo, but we do get more Toshiba laptops in our office than anything else... Either because the people who use them are idiots or because they really are shit laptops.

Just wondering zeeko, why aren't you going the Mac route this time?
The new MacBooks are great little laptops, and you get the best of both worlds these days with a Mac.
I say MacBook as I'm guessing a MacBook Pro is a little more than you're willing to spend.

These days, I wouldn't recommend anything other than a MacBook / Pro if someone asked me what laptop to buy.
