Quake 3 Doesn't Like Dual Core AMDs?

So I just reinstalled Quake 3 after finding the disc under my bed.
Im assuming this is a relatively old point release (there are only 7 pak files in the baseq3 directory (0-6)) so I'm about to download 1.32.
However, I wanted to give the old version a run before updating. The error Im getting started during the install process.
It says my processor doesn't meet the minimum requirements!
According to Quake 3 Im running an 86 mhz processor
I'm actually running an AMD dual core 64 x2 4200+
whenever I try to run the game I get a white screen then a crash and my gamma is cranked super high.
Any thoughts on this?

the IDSC is out of date, thats all.. nothing to worry about with the install.
as for the gamma, have you tried adjusting it via r_gamma ? or r_mapOverBrightBits , or well... run down this list.

there is a Hwignore gamma command in there someware that you may need to try.

Well, the game just straight up doesnt load.
My old install ran fine. A fresh install and the game crashes before it even gets to the splash screen.
The q3config file that's supposed to be auto-generated is empty as well.

Im running two 7300 GT videocards in SLi. I tried disabling SLi for the time being but with no change in behavior.

Went ahead and compiled the latest version of ioquake3 and that works like a charm.
Ill just go ahead and use the resulting exe from that

It seems to work just fine with my quad core AMD. Maybe an uninstall and reinstall if you decide to mess with it again?

indeed, it has to be something else,
i've installed and ran quake on my single Core AMD's ( K6/K7's/K8's) and Dual core rigs ( P4's, Core 2's, and K8's ) without an issue..
it has to be something else getting it to crash.

r_smp doesn't work in q3, never has. arQon made a nosmp exe that set to only 1 core in use when running q3. I have it somehwere. You can also use the latest MAXBrowse which has this option built into it.
Also, new ChallengeQ3 client released the other day. If you play CPMA you should use it. Next release it will be necessary I think.

The issue has been resolved with the latest build of IOQuake3.
I prefer ioquake3 over the original source anyways. But still, damn.... I thought it would be nice to have the original installed and working. Quake 1 works like a charm ironically.
