well ive been playing q3 for 2 days now and YOU ppl are good. i can barley get a single kill unless i fire rockets randomly at grouped up ppl. almost everyone ive played with rapesme.i can see that q3 is one of the most skilled games ive ever played.and im extremely good at css and cs 1.6. if anyone has any tips they would like to share on how to become good at quake3, feel free to do so.

Practice, practice, practice. =)

Tip #1: always keep moving. Most people coming from CS stop to take aim. In Q3 that spells certain death.

Tip #2: practice strafe jumping (google it). It's a fairly difficult technique to master, but you are going to need it.

Tip #3: get to know the maps played online, the ten most popular anyway.

What mods are you playing? If you're playing basic ffa you'll be in for a shock if you venture into the osp/3wave/ra3 realm, where the really talented players spend their time

Not really.

Tip #1: Download CPMA and practice with Promode physics. If you can play that, VQ3 is like walking when you could be running.

Tip #2: Quake 3 is much more about movement than aim. If youre a pro at Counter-Strike, chances are youre not cut out for Quake 3. If youre dedicated, learn how to strafe jump, circle jump, plasma climb, rocket jump and bunny hop. After you get movement downpacked, aim becomes much less of an issue

Tip #3: Its been eight years since Quake 3 was released and, by this time, people have scoped out the five or ten best maps on the planet - learn them. The more common duel maps include ztn3tourney1, pro-q3dm6, hub3aeroq3 and q3tourney4.

All truth. Also, after you have played for a bit, trust your instincts. If you start to think the opponent is going for item X then there is a good possibiility that they are. Don't rush it, you'll know.

alright thanks guys. ive got strafe jumping down and rocket jumping. i cant plasma climb although ive tried. i wanna start playing defrag but cant cause i dont have the mod and maps

Your Quake 3 folder should be inside your Program Files folder, that is, if you installed to the default location.

thats just it. its not in my prgrams folder. or anywhere else in my computer

Well the easiest is to just do a "search" for quake3.exe?

Did you download it from steam? Might be installed differently than the original q3.
When u find the .exe file, just put the defrag folder into your Quake III Arena folder. Then load the mod from the menu. Be sure to have the 1.32 patch installed. And defrag is almost a must if u want to learn how to strafe/bunny hop and generally learn the basic moves.

i downloaded q3 q2 and q1 from steam and i cant find the files ANYWHERE its like there not on my computer.

It'll most likely be where your steam folder is. Mine are in C:\Program Files(x86)\valve\steam\steamapps\common in individual folders for each game.

It's easy, anybody who can't do it at all after at most 1 week of practice sucks.

i already can strafe jump.

Easy (but hard...) test is jumping from bridge to rail on DM6.

I couldn't do it for like a year, but then one guy taught me how to do it in 20 mins. The problem was that with my high sense i couldn't normally circle jump, I moved the mouse too fast. After the first success I ended up with two more in a row, and now I can do it 70% of the time. So its rather easy, u just need to "get the feeling".

Strafejumping is like riding a bike: Its an ability you never forget. I stopped playing Quake 3 for like, 6 months. When i picked it up again (besides getting raped twice as often) strafejmping was still as good as it ever was. Of course, CPM physics helped a lot. Youll thank yourself for downloading it.

There was a guy called whitecloud that wrote a very comprehensive guide about everything Quake 3, including a guide on how to get your girlfriend to play Quake (works ).
