Practice is ON! Quake 3 is coming back and it looks fantastic at max settings. I'll be hitting the servers again after I re-learn the maps.

LOL, well close enough. I'll be 30 this year (makes me feel old) and before the official release of Q3, I played the beta with friends though at the time we were all Q2 and Q1 most of the time. Once Q3 came out, already graduated, but well you still hang out with your high school buddies, so it feels like old times.

It's funny though, almost a decade later and the game still has the fun appeal to both me and my "old" friends from both the office, college, and high school.

Is quake live actually worth it, sure, its free, and it can be played as a [java] applet (i would imagine it's java) and its free, but mods, and homebrew content, such as bots, maps, weapons etc. will not work, because it's not the actual quake 3 engine. You won't be able access to the pak files and baseq3, and i doubt there will be a console that can be accessed. It is literally just quake 3 arena, but not as good, because the well-known screenshot:
