Onboard sound problem

I have an Asus P5E mobo that came with a Soundmax HD audio expansion card and I just bought some Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers that I plugged into said card. Music plays fine via Winamp, but I don't get any sound when playing vids in Firefox or in games. Any ideas?

i assume you have connected the cables properly.
unplug speakers
try headphones in the green slot on the sound card .. vids and games should work in this simple stereo speaker mode.

if not i can only imagine it's a driver problem or motherboard/bios setting related to sound.

Check the sound control panel and make sure that sound output is going through the sound card...instead of the mobo sound device. If you have a microphone plugged into the card make sure the card is also selected under sound inputs.

Also, check your bios and under integrated devices Disable "audio" or "onboard sound"

not sure what one it is on that mobo,

and i agree with Fistya, Control panel -> Sound -> audio -> Default playback device

Fixed it after finding that disabling onboard audio renders sound inoperable altogether.

Lesson: Do not connect speaker wires under desk without flashlight. :dork:

You must have had a hard time.
But why do we need fleshlight to connect speaker wires?
Why difficulty does a flashlight commonly help one with?
