Credit card companies successfully nixed a Mythbusters segment exposing RFID's security flaws, according to Arbiter of Truth and Mythbusters co-host, Adam Savage.

Texas Instruments comes on along with chief legal counsel for American Express, Visa, Discover, and everybody else... They were way, way outgunned and they absolutely made it really clear to Discovery that they were not going to air this episode talking about how hackable this stuff was, and Discovery backed way down being a large corporation that depends upon the revenue of the advertisers. Now it's on Discovery's radar and they won't let us go near it.

yeah, i'm not too keen on the idea of RFIDs. in its current state the technology is shit. there are some neat things about it though and i'm sure its opening doors for better techs in the future.

oh, and i too would like to know which type of bricks are best to line my oven with in order to bake the perfect pizza.

Step Two: Now go do the same thing to a RFID chip inside anything.

The data inside the RFID is strongly encrypted, yes. But who needs to know what's under the encryption when you can record a 1:1 copy?

It's a little to easy to the point of it being quite scary. You know all the new condo buildings use the FOB key to open up all main and common area doors. Its basically an object with a RFID chip/antenna inside it. Beside every door you have a reader. That reader emits a strong magnetic field so that when a RFID chip is near it activates and sends a signal. All you do is place a recording device near the reader, and let the recording device record all RFID signals received, and you now have bunch of condo keys... YAY?
