How To Talk To Your Doctor About God
"They made me feel ridiculous for praying so much and so hard and leaving it up to God," said Gorman, who lives in Idaho Falls, Idaho. "But I told them my son not surviving was not an option."
When he was a month old, Christopher left the hospital. He's been healthy ever since, she says. He turns 3 next month.
"It was a miracle," she said. "There are just things doctors can't explain. Doctors are not in control of everything. There's stuff that happens every day that they can't explain."
A new study finds that many Americans have that same kind of faith. In the study, 57 percent of randomly surveyed adults said God's intervention could save a deathly ill family member even if physicians said treatment would be futile.
Yet another fluff piece on a major media outlet to reaffirm America's unthinking retards that "someone important is looking out for them". There is no news value in the article...none at all....and it's in the "health" section. Remember folks...if your doctor can't help you or refuses to use leeches, you can always pray.
With shit like this mingled with the everyday news it's no wonder the atheists don't have a chance of curing the religious madness.

it's pretty rampant in the US though, compared to the rest of the western industrialized world, you've got to agree on that?

no , it's the medias decision to make this a subject...ffs being religious and being patriotic has become synonymous in this country. So you have a bunch of loosely religious peeps jumping on the bandwagon as if it's their duty to do so.

yeah the media is mostly right there in the pocket of the religious right, which is also very far from most of Europe, where the media tends to be left-wing (granted, with it's own retarded issues that comes from that)

I think it's funny how some people can spend so much time complaining about something they dislike. Especially when they can't do anything about it. I know this is a multinational message board and people are going to have opinions. But some seem to obsess to the point of where they're actually torturing themselves with information that they can't stand. I liken it to watching a really shitty movie over and over again. You know you don't like the movie, you can't change who's in it and the outcome is fairly obvious. But you still watch and complain.
News flash... We've watched the same movie and think it sucked. We've also heard your complaints so many times that we'd like to fuck you in the face with a bat, just to stop your self inflicted physco chatter.

Yea, you'd rather people stop talking about the things you don't like so you can go back to ignoring the elephant in the bedroom (pun intended yuk yuk).

And if you don't like the movie playing on the message board why can't you seem to take your own advice and stop watching it?

Stay stupid gramps, it's what you're good at.
Oh and regarding your theory about me "repeatedly reading/watching stuff that pisses me off" is complete wank. I'm talking about and linking to lead articles on major news sites. These headlines greet me when I check my fucking email - when I'm not even in the mood to read the news. It's not like I'm hunting for bad news to get upset about. If I wanted that I'd read
InformationClearingHouse on a daily basis. Once every two months is all I can stand from that site.
Fuck u redneck.
----
Perhaps I shouldn't have labeled this thread "American" as my point wasn't another yank bash but rather a bash on the fact that a "respected" media outlet is allowed to produce retarded fluff pieces to pander to idiots and tell them it's ok to pray for help instead of actually getting it.
While it's true that any society ruled by muslim clerics is just as unenlightened as one dominated by christians, I was "pulling a Dawkins" to show my utter contempt for retardation and the championing of irrational belief

1. It's OK to ask for a doctor who also has strong religious convictions
Koenig suggests this approach when talking to a physician: "I would say: 'My religious beliefs are very important to me and influence my medical decisions and the way I cope with illness, and I want a doctor who has those same convictions. If you don't come from that perspective, do you know a doctor you can refer me to?' "
If you're a Christian, you might find a like-minded doctor through the ZIP code search at the Christian Medical and Dental Associations.
Wow.... that's dumb, sleazy, arrogant, arg. Stating religion is as important as making sure your close ones are healthy makes me puke. They really believe prayer has some real world effect? I can't grasp it. It's like the size of those really big stars, you just can't imagine the size of em. It's the same with their stupidity.

Humbly,

Sums it up nicely, IMO. And they say that atheists are arrogant. HEY GOD, DO WHAT I FUCKING TELL YOU. THANKS.

That whole "we are the chosen people" and "God has a plan" think is extremely dangerous. It's like a genocide just waiting to happen.
