Hey everyone. My razer deathadder is biting the dust and i wanted to know what a good mouse is for specifically playing quake 3.I know it needs to be fast, but precision is an important factor.
Do you recommend laser or optical, or ball mouse? What brand/model?
Regards

I have a Logitech Mx518. It's optical, has extra buttons, comfortable, cheap if you can find one these days, lasts forever (knocks on wood).

My 518 died a couple of years ago. Was a great mouse though.

I moved up to a G9 at home so I could take my MX518 into the office. Both are amazing devices but if you can spare the money the G9 is just awesome. I was really impressed with the level of engineering that went into it.

my mx510 is still going strong after about 5 years. I'll buy another when this breaks if I can get my hands on a new one.

Though my next mouse might be the Mx518 seeing as that is a popular one too.

That's a lie, I don't know any serious gamers who use that mouse. I had the Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 and was pretty disgusted with it after a day and returned it. I found the side buttons too "mushy".

really? Its quite a famous mouse when it comes to gaming, from what i heard its an "old school" mouse.
Its really nice, the mouse buttons though do seem a bit mushy. But i dont use those button either way for quake.
Good news its not going to my permanent mouse just temporary
Oh and about your laser Microsoft mouse, well the intelli mouse is optical so thats a plus

I learned Q3 style strafe jumping in Q2* but couldn't do it one bit until I switched from a ball mouse to an optical mouse. My strafing skills gained another boost when I switched to a high-resolution laser mouse.
* The technique is identical, but you have even less air control in Q2 - namely zilch.

I'm currently using the
Microsoft Habu, a Razer by any other name.
Good mouse too, although it took me a while to get used to.
And unlike Logitechs, great build quality.
I love the way Logitech mice feel, but their build quality has always been worse than MS.
This mouse gives me the feel of a Logitech like the mx518 with Microsoft's superior longevity.
