ESS Maestro-3i soundcard on my latitude c600 dell laptop. I've installed latest drivers (including dos emulation) from dell (ess says to get them from dell). I've tried changing the sound card settings to basic, advanced, etc. (ie. varying degrees of sound card supported features) without it working. Anyone else have this problem? I have 8mb video ram. The program runs fine, just without sound! Thanks aot if anyone knows!
directx related info I should add...

btw - i first tried directx 8.1 (which i had already) and then i tried directx v9.0 with same results. I tried to downgrade to 5.0 after i did a directx buster. not sure if it correctly downgraded (got error running dxdiag). anyways, still didn't work. The dxdiag tests for sound do work fine no matter what version. Thanks again if you took a look at this.

google and the activision site didn't help.
try deleting quake3\baseq3\q3config.cfg
let quake3 re-detect your hardware.
use low quality sound
upgrade quake3 to pointrelease 1.32 Patch
i assume ESS is Sound Blaster compatible if not check google for any driver hacks that the community may have made to make it so.
i read that windows make detect your card as an 2i ... try uninstalling the drivers ..reboot then manually install the drivers.
is quake3 the only game having problem with sound ?
good luck

One more reason to actually buy the games you enjoy playing.

THEN TAKE IT TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES BEFORE WE ALL GET IN SERIOUS TROUBLE!!!11
thanks.
on topic: a C600 wouldn't seem like it could run Q3 on 8MB of video ram. enable your sound and your framerates will be begging for forgiveness.
