quake 3 DeFrag help

when i load defrag on quake 3 under the mods section all it does is go to a black screen... 
i've been looking for full quake 3 for 2 months and today i get it, but now the mod does not work!
When i use arrow keys once the mod has loaded i can hear "dings" of the menu items being selected but if i use my mouse it does not do the same thing. i have no idea what to do... please help me get defrag working!
