Data recovery software

Turn on my work computer this morning, blue screen with UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DRIVE error.

And of course, I usually backup frequently, but this happens after 2 months of not.

Took the drive out, have it in an external drive enclosure and hooked up to my desktop through USB. Computer recognizes it as a drive, but I'm unable to access anything...get some weird inpage error or something when trying to. I had a similar issue in the past with a laptop and all I had to do to get the data off of it was what i have done now (external drive enclosure, hook it up to the desktop, usb connection, copy my data, re-image the laptop drive).

This time that isn't working, and I am desperate, so I'm looking at maybe trying one of the data recovery programs out there to see if it would let me access the data from the drive.

Anyone ever used any, or have any recommendations?

And I know, T&T  I'll move it and leave the shadow topic here so people at least see my question.

ah nevermind, I think I fixed it. tried the recovery console by booting to an xp cd then did fixboot.

looks like that might have done it...its loading as we speak and I am almost to the login screen....i'm sacrificing a live goat right now in hopes that it works.

heh, fair enough...

check out spinrite anyway as well... it may help you out to prevent it happening again.
