bittorrent is slooooooooooooow
it's faster to cross the atlantic and run back and forth with packets yourself
I get 1.8 Mb/s on newsgroups and you know you can't get that on bittorrent or anything else for that matter

Yes, why?
I get just under 3meg/second... Far easier than other means...

Of course. Though, it seems everyone's starting to use them nowadays. How long until they get targeted? I mean, they're probably the easiest to shut down out of everything.

dmmh I was only going to ask this same question a few days ago.
A mate at work suggest I look into 'em.
Seems my software Xnews doesn't see all parts of a (most binaries) binary. I am looking for solutions here.
What reader are you using and have you any www links on the subject?

Alt.Binz or
Sabnzbd (practically fully auto and browser based, and integrates really nicely with Newzbin)

don't you have to pay extra to get a decent search facility with newsgroups?

OMG I have to wait 20 min for a 30 min video!!!!
i don't see the big deal... but then i remember multi-day transfers on a 14.4 over IRC so i suppose i have a different perspective. And maybe we have different perspectives on what "slow" is.
I've seen plenty of lightning fast torrents that bounce off my 3Mbps cap; plenty of average 1Mpbs torrents; and plenty of 250-500Kbps torrents; and lots that are totally dead with no seeds... but i've never seen one that I would call "slow".
I'll toss in other things that happened to newsgroups in the US after the 90's.
ISPs either stopped carrying them (removing reliable free local access)
or they pruned all the *fun* off of them
A lot of my past experiences were also rife with wasting time on bad or incomplete data; something i've never done on bittorrent.
You also don't get that warm fuzzy from uploading, since it's generally harder to *give back* anonymously.
I like that torrents encourage two-way traffic and generally punish leeches, makes it more like the IRC trading days; just without the personal touch of actually talking to people.

well there are free ones, but I don't mind paying for the paid better one. I just need convenience and max speed. I hate waiting, when I want something, I want it yesterday, so I don't mind spending a few bucks. I use astraweb, for it's speed and retention, also not free, but who cares?

well things have changed, news clients automatically import nzb files, check for completeness
and extract the files from the rar files for you. Back in the days it was a lot of work: finding the download, download it, check if it is complete, get extra par's if not, have Quickpar fix the archives, extra, delete the archives. That's all gone basically, it's a simple as opening a nzb file and you'll have your files waiting for you

That is so sad. You won't pay for the content in the first place, so you pirate it instead. Then you pay to pirate it easier. Lol, and people wonder why the world is going to shits.

On easynews, it's not even that. They decode and automatically unrar and par recover files on their servers -- if you happen to be looking for a movie, you can usually just drop the avi link from the search page right into
downthemall and be done with it.

Verizon stopped allowing Bianaries on it's newsgroups

fucking assholes...
Bittorrent is insanely fast when you join (read are invited after extreme scrutiny) a private tracker community that kick low ratio members. 1 hour tv show posted 1.5 hours after it airs with a download speed of 2.5mb there are so many seeders because everyone needs to keep up ratio.
