I'm iffy about the video card and CPU. I think the 9800GTX would be overkill for a non-gaming system and I doubt the difference between Quad and Duo would be too noticeable in 3D work. Any thoughts/suggestions?

If he's doing any architectural rendering, the quad will be a huge improvement.

The video card will likely be overkill for architectural work, though a little overhead isn't a bad thing.

you know that if u checked some stores downtown u'd get a better deal

NCIX has some great deals on certain parts (plus no PST usually offsets the shipping costs), but if you shop around, you'll find cheaper deals on other parts elsewhere, so yeah, check out prices downtown too.

If you're not against using Tiger Direct, you can get that video card for a lot less.

I was just using NCIX to round up the parts. Filtech in downtown TO usually has the best prices.

You wouldnt listen, but Ncix is an american company working in canada.. so when the US takes a shit dive, their prices go up... when our Looney Gets Closer to the USD price, the prices stay up for them... its funny how that works, innit?

yes, they do.. but then again, the information is out there for you to make your own choices without listening to them.

They have the prodies, and the service... thats all i look for in them.

As for the PSU, i would give it a thumbs up... and i think hardocp gave that one a high score as well.

But the thing is, last time I relied on their services was about two years ago and I wasn't as tech-savvy as I am now. I know what you mean though.

if your dad is doing 3d rendering wouldn't he be better off using a workstation card instead of a gaming card.

I thought the same when i first read this, but Almost all of the Apps around have switched from there Native API to DirectX, so *ANY* Card can do the work on it, rather then the workstation only ones ( Quatro, FireGL, ETC).

So that card will be able to render it no problem, and have a bit of overhead for Future projects/apps.
