Config File

I'm new to Quake 3 and I started playing with the default settings against the bots. I was curious about config files so I downloaded this one http://www.quaketweaks.com/yamconfig.html to see what options I could play with. I noticed a significant change in the speed of the game (almost like "Speed Freak" in URT3). If I switch back to default settings it returns to the original speed.

My question is, what option in this config makes such a difference? Is it just optimizing or is it like a mod? I prefer to play with the basic "street legal" settings I might see in real, online play (I haven't played multiplayer yet).

Thanks

big ugly differemces

basically a lot of players lower the visual quality to make the opponent stand out more , making it easier to find you and killl you.

Also, some players do not have great computers so they lower the visual quality to stop the onscreen jerkiness.

some players with great computers up the quality with config tweaks to see the best the quake3 engine can offer

try r_picmip "10" if you like seeing plain walls.

also, FOV is set to 120 in that config, while default is 90.
higher FOV makes the runningspeed look a lot faster.
