Reflections on QL (and gamers in general)

All with respect to the NDA.

Let me start by saying -

I suck at this.
I enjoy sucking at this.
Been sucking at this for over 10 years.
Not gonna change as it is a god-given talent.

I am usually in a quest for a CA match where I can make a contribution, win and have some fun. I join "up" one level and some sanctimonious prick who can hit anything when and where he wishes joins a level down from his skill. He is looking for fragbait and he leads my CA team.

As soon as we start losing he's chirping "where's my team?" or "it would be nice if my team hit something".

Let me just say "bite me". I paid good money to play this game and too bad if you lose.

No one here, of course, just getting it off my chest. Q3 was never like this and QL will never be like Q3.

I like when Unisaw joins a server I'm on and plays on the other team. Free Kill.

I do believe I used the word "suck". You miss the point.

so you're saying that the QL crowd is not the same as the Q3 crowd?

I haven't seen any diff. there are still an assortment of players...the good the bad and the ugly

I'm glad to oblige. The point is: If you are the strongest on your team - lead - don't bash your team.

q3 was never like this?
please, there were people TKing in CTF to steal the flag and score the point themselves.

idiots will always be online, especially in pubgames. dont romantisize q3 to the point thinking it was any different

k that I can agree with, ugly people usually have subtextual power to suck up all the fun around them. I can tell in a server of good players (and i dont mean skill wise ) it only takes 1 or 2 morons max to change the entire atmosphere.

But that hasn't changed...comes with the fps territory...actually that comes with everything, like real life and all.

I'm not sure that the QL crowd and the Q3 crowd are much different. But I will say that the CA/RA crowd tend to rate much higher on the douche bag scale than FFA crowd. It might have something to do with the fact that there is a lot of down time after you are fragged to sit around and brood talk smack. Whereas in FFA/DM/CTF you just respawn and get back into the action.

I don't recall playing you lately unless you're talking about the olden Q3 days :D

the quake 3 community was one of the most notorious for whiners actually. honestly, if you played on some "decent" pub servers, any single fuckups you make would be well and truly noted. it was a competitive game and people are always going to moan if things don't go their way.

i've heard people on teamspeak nearly have a stroke because they were so angry. serious business!

left 4 dead is already going down the same path, but i i must admit to a certain satisfaction when you force someone to rage quit (especially verbally)

i got called a "cheateur" by some french guy the other day. good times.

I thought I'd be playing a lot more QL than I did, too much other stuff. The good old days will never return.

haha, maybe the fender we played against (and added me as a friend on steam) isn't the same as q3w fender.

and yeah, the quake 3 glory days are over. i'd much rather play l4d than ql anyday right now.

I get pretty frustrated in l4d versus. I usually hold it in, or don't play.

Yeah, I don't think it was me. I've barely played QL and never used it w/ VoIP nor Steam.

I haven't played QL and prolly won't get around to it. Between COD5, L4D and GTA 4, I haven't got much gaming time left.
