Have you seen Reverie? Shot with a EOS 5D Mark II.

lol that's a ridiculously horrible video - reminds me of the new wave of arab music videos - but it does show off the camera's prowess :)

looks impressive, but damn... $2500 just for the body.

Well, I am an official 50D owner now (as soon as it arrives from Costco.com). Took the XSi back (thanks to Costco's kickass return policy). As I mentioned in the photo thread, would have gone with a 40D if Costco still carried it, but this was the only other Canon model above the XSi that they carried, and I really needed the larger body. I wish they had a larger selection of cameras, or that more camera places matched Costco's return policy, prices, and their doubling of the manufacturer warranty at no extra cost.

I wouldn't buy a "cropped" sensor camera, since its probably still possible to get a 5D mk1, or the mk2 is just amazing. They do cost a lot of money though, so I'm sticking to my ancient 20D until I geta job :)

Unless you want to pay a shitload of money you're going to be getting the smaller sensor with the 1.6x crop factor.

I'm not going to spend another $1k or so on a body only and then still need to buy L-series lenses to really get the most out of it.

edit: Looked around for the 5d mk1, and the cheapest I could find the body was right around $2000.

If I were single I'd be getting the 5d mkII even though it would be huge overkill for me considering my skills and experience, but I have promised my wife that our basement would be finished by the end of this summer (I've been a bit busy to do much since last summer, so its sat there with 3 walls framed, a few canister lights installed, and a whole bunch of lumber, wiring, etc., sitting in the basement). The rest of my budget will be spent on ripping out my old backyard and putting in a new one, refinishing all the hardwoods, putting in a new furnace, etc, etc, etc...CC's are all paid off, so I refuse to put anything on them that I won't pay off in the next statement. Single folks - enjoy spending your money on whatever the hell you want with no questions asked while you can.

Looks like I'm on the other side of the problem, I have all the lenses I need, except for a 24-70 f/2.8L to complete my kit, but I cant use my 17-40 properly, nor is the 50mm very useful on a crop body.

Still searching around for good deals since I just returned and ordered stuff yesterday and found this at best buy online:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 0987191339

This looks like a pretty good deal for a new d200 even if the model is older...checking ebay it looks like used systems are going for about the same price or more.

dpreviews.com said this camera holds its own against the d2x. If that is the case, this seems like a really, really good deal considering that the d40 is about the same price (although it comes with a kit lens).

Worth considering or not you think?

it's a good camera, but do you really want to be collecting two makes of lens?

I'd have to return the 50D when it arrives if I were to get the D200. But I am not going to do that. Costco is the only place I'll buy from in this case because I want the security of knowing I can take anything back after 3 months if I don't like it and like i said that doubling of the warranty is really nice. Not hard to tell I am a fan of Costco.

I have a friend looking for a good DSLR at a decent price - would that be worth recommending at that price?
