I wish...(mmorpg)

There was an mmorpg that I could play that didn't require you to play several hours per day just to be good and enjoy yourself. A few years back I loved playing Neverwinter Nights, but I played probably 6+ hours a day and I just don't have that kind of time anymore, nor would I want to devote that much time if I did. So is there a mmorpg out there that doesn't require you to quit your day job?

The already low grind in Guild Wars has been lowered even more in the past year or so. No monthly fees, either. I picked up the "Eye of the North" expansion while my 360 was getting fixed. I hadn't played for nearly 1.5 years before this, however. You can get all but the newest chapter very cheap as well.

The Newegg offers have free shipping.
1st campaign (Prophesies) and the expansion (Eye of the North) for $13: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832784003

2nd campaign (Factions) for $10: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832197002

For $23 you get 3 of the 4 playable campaigns.

Or for $30+shipping, get the 3 main campaigns:

And Eye of the North can be picked up for about $16, including shipping on amazon.

there's a free trial, although it looks like it's through a 3rd party.

in a bit, WotC will publish their online GameTable.
thats online rpging in its purest form - through d&d.
should be worth looking at perhaps (no nerd)

Not a 3rd party. NCSoft owns ArenaNet which created GuildWars.

i used to find maplestory was pretty good to play if i only had 30 minutes or an hour or so to play. the grind quests aside, the simplicity of the game makes it easy to jump in and quickly accomplish several things. the leveling pace is rather rewarding too until you start to approach level 50. the only thing i don't like about the game is the cutsie anime style it has going on. if you do decide to check it out make sure you read a character creation/leveling guide before you start out otherwise you'll probably create a nerfed class that can't really work worth shit. oh, and apparently they have a pirates class now too.

I had a blast with City of Heroes back in the day, that being the only true mmorpg i have ever played - but i think the 'spend X time and be rewarded for it ingame through your character (or whatever) progressing is pretty much a basic deal with these things.

With Eve-Online you do not have to be logged on to level. Detailed explanation here:

Really way too much depth to the game to explain in one post. Learning curve can be a bitch:

If you find something, lemme know. I keep relogging into WoW, and then realizing how much I hate that game now after two or three days.

Eh? I quit playing for reals over two years ago, but periodically I try starting it up again to see if it's managed to somehow turn into a fun game. Only to hate the game even more a few days after I start again.

downloader here.

http://maplestory.nexon.net/WZ.ASPX?PAR ... amePatches

let me know what world you decide to create a character on and i'll make one there too. i currently have a lvl 5x on Bello and a 4x on Kradia so if you decide to go to one of those worlds i can easily fund new characters for the start.

also, here are some class specific guides to help you set up your character from the very start. http://global.hidden-street.net/guides/guides.php
there are character descriptions linked on the left in that hidden street link to help you decide which class to choose.

For a free MMO it seems kind of lacking compared to the others which are dismal at best.

For free MMO action, I suppose MUDs are too retro?

If you only want to play a bit each day, there are also the daily web games, like KoL and LotGD, etc.

I'd join in on Maplestory, but it seems to get a Garbage rating about running under Wine, so I'll pass. I don't want to know how bad it would be under VirtualBox or something.

Yeah, nobody can get it to run with Wine. :(
