very intuitive, the scary part about it is you can't really do wrong!
you'd be hard pressed to come up with something audibly hideous.

Is that attributed to the creator's brilliance or to the brains ability to recognize musical patterns out of chaos?!

I'm sure alot of it has to due to the fact that there is a set bps and that it repeats

either way great idea and well executed

This may help answer your question:

Code: Select all

2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,2048,4096,8192,16384,32768,65536
The scale being used is one not a standard one.

further explanation needed :D

I know theres a scale there but what's the diff. between this and a "standard" one?

wouldn't be able to give you a proper explanation, but suffice it to say that certain scales are much more forgiving than others.

The standard western scale is the one that goes up an octave in 12 equally spaced increments.

Ever played around with a piano using only the black notes? That's a forgiving scale that sounds musical no matter what combination or sequence you use.

the scale used in this toy has many notes missing.

the toy spans 3 octaves, and the octaves are only separated by 5 increments, so you're only getting 5 notes to play with here.

it's using the D major pentatonic scale, which instead of scale degrees 1-8 ("standard") it uses scale degrees 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6.

Not usually 12 equal spaces.

pretty cool. yes the scale is pentatonic, which is the equivalent of hitting just the black keys on a piano.
