Moved Q3 server behind a router. Need help with forwarded p

Hi there everyone,

First off: Quake 3(1.32) running OSP 1.03(a).

My q3 servers are no longer on the gateway computer but now connect to the outside world through a router. It's been so long since I've had a setup like this, that I've forgotten the deal with port forwarding.

I've already set port 27960-27970 to forward to this particular computer, but things don't seem to be working quite right. I found the following info on the web in a q3 thread elsewhere:
TCP ports: 80, 6667, 28910, 29900, 29920
UDP ports: 4321, 27900
But this doesn't seem right. I don't remember dealing with all these ports the last time I set up a q3 server behind a router.

Could someone help me out with a refresher? I can't seem to find the right information.

thanks,
json

It doesn't seem I can edit my post but I found this thread on this very site telling me to forward 27950 on, so I changed my port forwarding to 27950-27970. Does this cover me?

For Q3A itself you only need to forward UDP port 27960. Do you have PB enabled?

Hi there misantropia and thanks very much for the reply. I don't have PB installed, but when I tested the server initially(using my outside IP from inside the local network), it wouldn't connect , instead hanging while awaiting snapshot. I then tried connecting inside the network and it worked, downloading a necessary OSP pak to connect. Once it had done that, I was then able to connect via the outside IP.

The fact that I couldn't download the pak file from outside made me think that there was another port that needed opening.

thanks,

Depending on your network configuration, the external address is not always routable from the inside. Best way is to let a friend try to connect.

Thanks very much for that. My tester's being a little lackadaisical about the matter, but will see how it goes when he decides to show up :)
