got it thanks! but is there any way to adjust the audio so that at 1.5x speed it doesn't sound like a bunch of chipmunks?

VLC is indeed the best. It's too bad I somehow managed to break it in Ubuntu.

the fuck? what else would it sound like?. If you speed things up, things sound like chipmunks.
Your question is as ridiculous as:
"Is there anyway to adjust the video so that at 1.5x speed things don't move faster?"

No, Julios, there are ways to pitch adjust audio so that 1.5x audio is simply faster, not higher pitched as well.

I thought VLC did that automatically? Maybe I was using Amarok when I was speeding up my podcasts, I can't remember.

its under filters > Scale audio tempo in sync with playback rate.

FFDShow + Windows Media Player / Media Player Classic > VLC.

Just reading your equation seems like more work than simply downloading VLC and playing a video.

I'm not impressed with the last couple builds of vlc. I get a lot of freezing and pixilization and it doesn't like my dual monitors. I went back to like .8.6 I think until they finally release a stable 1.

Heh maybe so.
FFDShow works with other media players though (not VLC), and it allows you to up-scale all your videos to look much better than they originally did plus a number of other things for both video and audio (sharpening, convert audio into Pro Logic etc). VLC doesn't come close in terms of video quality.

If FFDShow is so good why's it still in beta?
I use Media Player Classic primarily, cause it has a better UI, then if it doesn't play in that, an old version of VLC I have (0.8.6).

From what i understand VLC is great if you're a bit of a nerd who likes to get into things a little deeper than someone who has never seen the need to play something at 1.5 times the normal speed whilst keeping the pitch low (what the fuck were you doing..?)
So yeah, i'm gonna say WMP classic with a good codepack. Plays everything, no options, no hassle.

Playing WMV's with any of the above players is a pain... and I'm still trying to find a decent one.

Either you meant to say FDDShow or you're completely wrong about VLC. VLC is about ease of use, just install it and you don't even have to worry about installing any extra tricky codec packs.

I used to run bsplayer, which still is my second favorite, but vlc just about trumps everything else, in my experience.
As mentioned, it can handle any media file you throw at it 'out of the box', without the need for additional downloads or tweaking.
And at the same time it allows you to customize pretty much anything you like. I never ran into some feature that was lacking.

Google Mail is still 'beta' despite being very stable. It's an open-source project so if there any any bugs they'll get ironed out quickly anyway.

I just realised I already have it installed. I forgot I installed it before. Yeah the picture quality is good. Anyway I have the latest version now.
To those who said it seems over-complicated: You don't have to do anything with it, it works just like any other codec. Sure, there are probably some extra things you can do with it, but I haven't used them AFAIK, and the picture quality is good, like I said.
