They've decided to return you to the recently discovered backwards planet instead.

I agree with goof. With the technology advances we've made, the idea we can't do something done in the 60s today is ridiculous.

NASA's budget: $18bn, and even this is too much for congress to bear, unlike the $0.5trn spent on the military, including those oh-so-necessary 720-something bases around the world

Looks to me like it's a budget issue.

What's on the moon anyway? It's like driving into the desert. There's nothing there to be learned or explored, it's largely uninhabitable and nobody want to be there.

I say, go to Mars.

Hey, chill out there fancy pants. I'm sure they'll let you wear a dress on Mars and don't forget a bar for those C cups you're sporting.

NASA doesn’t have nearly enough money...
NASA is said to try to own sun light to sell it to people like food on earth.

1st: shut out sun light to specific areas
2nd: threaten people by lying that it was done by offensive alien from another galaxy, presenting photoshopped pictures & premiered videoes
3rd: sell fake sun light like fake food on earth

They could also use that thing on your forehead to cause an eclipse at will.

All communication links with the only Indian satellite orbiting the Moon have been lost, India's space agency says.

Trying to troubleshoot the problems, Indian Space Agency tries to phone tech support at NASA, can't understand what they're saying.

Some critics regard the space programme as a waste of resources in a country where millions still lack basic services.
I'd agree with this. Shitty countries should try sticking to the basics and just leech space information produced by others once it becomes public domain

I think what a lot of people forget is the race to the moon was made possible by the cold war. The original research was being done to put people in spy satellites into space to not only spy on the enemy but potentially shoot down their satellites. The problem is that manned missions are so incredibly much more expensive than unmanned missions that it is impossible to justify them now that unmanned missions have been so successful. That's one of the discoveries that came out of the space race sadly; that manned space flight isn't worth it.

I think until we come up with a way to reduce the cost or extend the value of the missions, we wont be going. Hopefully something like the space elevator becomes a reality once companies perfect practical carbon nano tube lengths.

india isn't rwanda. it's a rapidly industrialising country with a population approaching the 1bn mark, and an economy that continues to grow healthily thru the current recession. the amount they spent on that probe was chicken feed, and while i'm sure there are no shortage of people who have preferred if it had been spent on actual chicken feed, there will always be people who are hostile to any kind of space programme regardless of other factors

and then make them approx. 100,000 miles long to allow for the counterweight

also, human spaceflight is important, for the positive reason that sending humans to other planets is a worthy challenge in its own right, and for the negative reason that we shouldn't just be handing over the things we should be doing to robots. as a corollary, supposed someone asked why should someone spend a lifetime perfecting the playing of chopin when a robo-pianist could be programmed to do the same? the human dimension matters
