Quake Live

I've spent no time in finding out what Quake Live is, since I'm completely dedicated to Q3A. I finally went to it's site today and noticed that all of the pics are pretty much Q3 modified into a different version..yet it seems more like a Mod rather than another game. Along with what looked like some Team Arena mixed into it also.
Is it it's own game, or does it attach itself to Q3 like a mod? I didn't see a price tag at the site, so this is why I ask.

doesn't cost a penny, download it and check it out and I doubt you'll see much of a difference.

all the real homos play it around here

edit: But no, it's not so much a mod, some things are changed yes, but you'll be mad you haven't checked it out until now I'm sure.

it's an online, free version of Q3A.

minor details have changed - tweaked weapon damage, less console commands, a few minor edits to maps, added a nail gun to some maps (it sucks), etc.

fun stuff.

is there a knack to using the nailgun? for me it always seems like picking up your hand at a card game only to find that you've gotten that faceless one with the instructions for blackjack printed on it.

happy with the chaingun and prox launcher, but on a good weekend i can vomit with more force than that bloody nailgun.

not that i've figured out. it seems more like an extra MG than a proper Q2 chain or QW weapon.
tourney2 is the one QL map i've played that I really think they ruined. pro-t2 was already bad, and this bastard child of original t2 and pro-t2 is even worse.

I think your mixing up chain and nailgun menkent.

Nailgun is nothing like mg. Its like a rocket launcher made in belgium... No splash damage, slow firing rate and extremely slow projectiles.
Pretty useless except in some funky spacemaps were you can pop peeps out of the air with it.. If your prediction and acc is good enough.

Chaingun is pretty useful if you predict were enemies are. Be ready to wind that fucker up for a second so you basically have a high damage hitscan weapon.

i was comparing it to the chain as a more powerful rapid-fire weapon from q2, but you're of course right that it isn't hitscan.
