Sydney's dust storm

So, we had a pretty eerie dust storm yesterday. When I woke up, instead of the usual bright light filtering through my bedroom curtain, it was completely red. Drew the curtain and there was red dust all over the place. Could still make out the neighbour's house across the street, but beyond that it was very hazy and I couldn't see some trees that I normally can. Very surreal.

There are some pictures in the news article, but I'm sure you can google more if you're interested. Apparently the dust cloud was visible from space!

Haha fucking true, no I don't have a camera. I was actually thinking yesterday "I really should have a camera so I could take pictures or something" =[

Similarly, about 2 years ago we had a moth invasion in the Sydney CBD. There were moths all over the place, littering the streets and pavements, getting into building lobbies, covering the walls. You couldn't move in some places without having to step on a moth or two. I wanted to take pictures then as well ..

Maybe I should get a camera :paranoid:

edit: Weird, Geoff's quote doesn't render properly even though the syntax is correct.

A lot of people were wearing those sanitary masks that asians break out whenever there's a flu scare. I've spent 8 years playing soccer on a dusty field at school, so I've built up an immunity to dust :paranoid:

There have been reports about it on the news here with video images. It's looking pretty spectacular and scary at the same time. It's like images were taken on Mars.

Is it hard to breathe in that red stuff or do you barely notice it?

I got out of the house at around ~7:10 AM by which time it had started settling. You could smell the earthiness, but I didn't find it hard to breathe. Did end up with reddish boogers though.

Probably the same as breathing in sanded paint dust, but hopefully less bad for your health.
