hd4890 and quake 3

i'm getting a new computer with a sapphire hd4890 1gig gfx card. i was wondering if any of you have played quake3 with it? i ask because i wonder if you get the horrible skybox blacklines bug ingame. thanks

I could be wrong but I think every ATI card produces the cube lines in the skybox because of an issue with shaders and opengl, but I don't know the specific details

Again, could be wrong but evry ATI card i've owned had this

It has to do with how texture clamping was done in older games like Q3 and the default for newer games. Technically, nVidia cards do this too, but they have an exception that if you are running an older game like Q3, it turns the newer texture clamping method off. There is no real fix, though I believe ioq3 fixes this "bug" so you may want to give that a try.

If IOQ3 fixes it, Quake Live and CNQ3 probably do too.

Edit: Also you could try r_fastsky 1, or whatever the command for fastsky is. (I don't like it cause it's black, which makes my CRT monitor like a mirror, which is distracting.)
