Are you sure you want to delete "WINDOWS"?

I get this message whenever I try to empty my trash.
A few days ago I went into the Windows

Tools menu and clicked "show hidden folders" and "show protected system files" because my disk defragger was bitching about a hidden file (I still never found it) and wouldn't defrag. After not finding the mentioned file I reset my view parameters (hide hidden folders and system files) and ever since then whenever I have an empty trash can the icon shows as if there's something in there. So when I click "Empty Recycle Bin" I get prompted if I want to delete "WINDOWS".
Since I know I'm not actually deleting the WINDOWS folder (I never deleted it in the first place...duh) I went ahead and clicked "Yes". As expected, nothing happened but the Recycle Bin still shows there's something in it and everytime I empty it the thing asks the same stupid question.
How do I get rid of this crap and show a nice, empty trash can again?
Thanks in advance.

Try going into c:\RECYCLER and manually deleting any trash-folders that show up in there. They'll be hidden and have a string of numbers for a name.

I found two files in there but deleting them didn't help.

try in safe mode ?
there are programs that remove files on startup that just won't go away as they should.

i would click yes, there is only a few things that could happen... and nothing that couldn't be fixed with a windows Disk.

Update: This problem occurred because one of my USB drives had a single file that was corrupted. After "converting the file to an avi" (that's what the debugger recommended) the problem has gone away.
This same problem was what was keeping me from defragging that specific USB drive.
Two birds with one stone.

"Are you sure you want to delete WINDOWS" and a corrupted file on your USB drive. WTF? How is anyone supposed to be able to figure something like this out. They are seemingly completely unrelated. FFS, Microsoft!

I think Windows meant it more as a suggestion than a question.

Like I've said thousands of times: The only reason I know anything about Windows PCs is because I've had to learn to fix the fucking things.

I'm quite sure nobody is supposed to figure it out. I have no doubt that the fagg0ts at Microsoft (and most programmers in general) still have the same attitudes that they did back in the days of DOS: if you don't know all the commands and if you don't know all the tricks you shouldn't be allowed to use a PC.
TBH it's the reason I don't respect programmers anymore...because they're really good at patting themselves on the back and telling themselves how smart and clever they are, all the while breaking shit and fucking things up. And whatever bad happens...it's never their fault. YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG! YOU'VE GOT THE WRONG VERSION! YOU'VE GOT THE WRONG HARDWARE! IT WORKS ON MY MACHINE! IT MUST BE SOMEONE ELSE'S CODE THAT BROKE IT! NO...I DIDN'T TEST IT...BUT IT
SHOULD WORK! I CAN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM!
And my all-time favorite: IF YOU WANT QUALITY YOU MUST HACK!
The really funny thing for me is all those dump logs that programmers create. Then when you send it to them or ask them about it, they'll say,"Nah...there's nothing really useful in those files anyways".

That has never stopped a Microsoft product from being defective...and it never will.

to be fair, 80% of the time it's a tester who has some other dev app running or fucked up host file or has clashing browsersessions - stuff that wouldnt happen to a regular user :l
