i haven't had internet for almost a yr, i'm running XP Pro SP2 and have the latest updates, went to M$'s site today and saw SP3, i have it downloaded but not installed, i have automatic updates on but nothing popped up about SP3 yet.
i have gotten it downloaded, (full install) version of SP3 but not installed it yet.
comments ? should i install it? i really don't care for the 10% performance increase.

Let's just say SP3 isn't mandatory if you have SP2 but it won't further harm your system if you install it.
The only real problem with the updates is "searchindexer.exe"...which for no known reason will begin indexing an already-indexed drive and take a gig of RAM to do it. The worst part is that it activates whenever it bloody well pleases...even when you're gaming. Thankfully it's easy to disable.

Patch your OS up as much as you can, it's usually best to play it safe and stay as current as possible.
If the search problem that GKY mentioned is Windows Desktop Search, I've seen the same performance problems. Definitely the shittiest windows update in a long time.
Getting rid of it is a bit more than add/remove. I think the right solution is a few screens down on this thread:

SP3's mostly a rollup of previous updates, plus a few minor feature tweaks.
It's just a fat patch. No big.
