I'm looking for a GUI that will be applied in the background to show CPU/mem/nic/temps/hdd/Up time.

there are solutions like this for linux, but i cant seem to find a decent one for windows.

vista or 7 have desktop gadgets built in that will do some of those functions.

For XP there's litestep and other shell-replacements that have scripting/modular stuff on them.

You can also get a lot of handy boot-time info and static environment info using BGInfo.

i've used Bginfo in the past, the issue is it never updates.... or in a decent manner.

You can see this program called NHC, and its everything that i want in the GUI, but it dosnt have the Uptime, Nic use, etc.

There's google desktop sidebar gadgets that may do most of what you want.

The BGInfo problem can be fixed by setting up a scheduled task that runs every 5-10 mins to re-apply the bginfo wallpaper. Not suitable for a gaming rig or such though, unless you can set it to run only when idle.

yeah, i was looking at the google gadgets, but it would take ~5 of them to get the information that i would like... and considering i only want 6 pieces of information, that aint that hot. :)

yeah, i used to admin a place where we had a Autoit script that would run in the background and re-apply bginfo if the IP/background changed.

but sadly, it never gets along with Active desktop. :)

ick.

I use it in server environments and have it refresh on user logon. Works fine for most data in an RDP environment. Not sure about desktops, it's not really designed for real-time updates.

yeah, its a life saver on some server farms, and even in a Office...

its much easier then telling people how to find out their IP address Via Dos. :)
