This is either a major event in your life that requires moral support from the internet or a T&T topic posted in the wrong forum.
May I suggest simply installing the OS and being done with it. You can also get support at
http://www.microsoft.com.

I don't miss XP at all. On newer hardware, 7 runs great. On older stuff, I just toss on Ubuntu and I'm also enjoying my Mac, which being a 3-4 year old model is still running great and fast.

He's not asking for help, just an opinion from people already running it. Also, this is a spam forum where pretty much any topic is allowed.

Vista on my system was more stable and had fewer annoyances then 7. There was always too much bad hype about Vista. I liked it. 7 is nice, but not really leaps and bounds better.
(that might be the gin talking)

I didn't really have any problems with Vista either. My games seem to run a little better with 7 though.

Being still stuck with only a 2 core 5000 CPU and a GF 8800 GT 512meg, I can't make the move yet

Performance should be about the same, however I found at least a 50% drop in all games... Its possible it was a driver issue...
I have a copy of Win 7 just gathering dust, and I REALLY enjoyed using it... Damn shame it had performance issues for me... Damn, damn shame... Like I said more than likely a driver issue as I know people with lesser rigs running it, so it may be something odd...

I had a C2D E4400 with a 7600GT and Win7 gave me a ~30% boost in OpenGL games from XP. Not sure how it runs on this rig (gtx260/q8400)

I got a performance boost all around from 7 (coming from xp), and that's saying a lot coming from me (I stuck with xp all the way through vista)
I got an average boost of:
+10-15 fps in mainstream computer games
+5-10 fps in gamecube/wii emulation (CPU intensive)
+5-10 fps in cpu intensive games like crysis
I lost framerate in 2 or 3 games though, but they are titles no one ever plays anyways (Frets of fire was one game I tried), but I never tried running them in compaitibilty mode or whatever
The main reason I went to 7 was becase I upgraded to a solid state drive, and I read that xp can't "use" them propely and can damage them (I know defragging damages them, but also read that xp doesen't know how to write data to it properly and thus slowly degrades the life on it). I was skeptical but it really is much better than xp. (On newer machines obviosly).
