from the faq
What does "User Interface is version 4, expected 3" mean?
This means your quake.exe isn't compatible with the current installed point release. Only solution is to remove all pak*.pk3 files, except for pak0.pk3, and then reinstall the latest pointrelease.

thanks for your reply. i apologize for not doing a little more research on my own before posting my question.

i have quake3 on two comps and the other is having no problems at all. so i am confused as to why there is a point release problem with one and not the other. not that its important as long as i can get them both working. just was curious for my knowledge and info.

thanks again JuggerNaut

Simply copy the whole q3 folder of the one that's working to the one that's not.
Just delete the one that dosen't work first.

ok thanks, but i have already started what JuggeraNaut suggested. i d/l the .exe file.so after delelting the proper .pak files just put the the point release file in the baseq3 folder and run it?

ok i went and ran the latest point release. now the game boots up fine.

but now i am having a display problem where the screen is all blocks like some kind of slide puzzle. i have that same problem with a couple of other games. i think it may be a graphics card problem. i'm trying to work that one out.

anyway,
thanks for the help.

Update all you drivers and load up Quake again.

Graphics card, motherboard chipset etc.

I don't have another computer that has the file. I am not the same person. If i download the Q3 server or something will it come with the pak0.pk3 file in it or maybe the Demo or something. That is the only file i need and it really makes me mad!!! lol

Thanks

ok, i did that and installed my new graphics card. now i get the game to play, but after a short while i get "critical error and has to shut down". then it freezes up and i have to ctrl, alt, del to get get out of it. then my graphics are all screwed up and have to reboot to get everything back to normal.

what could be causing this problem?
