Monitor experts - need help choosing a technology

My mom's looking to buy a new monitor for her desktop.
She doesn't want to spend more than $US 500 (before tax)
19 inch
But she wants it to be only 6 inches deep!
Is it possible to get a good quality display that fits these constraints?
Cheers for any suggestions

Can't speak to the brand, but there's just one example.

6" thick, or from the frontmost position to the backmost position regardless of tilt and taking into account the size of the base?

from frontmost to backmost regardless. Whole point is because her desk is quite thin and the screen is right in her face.

My bother-in-law has one and there's a bright led light just below the screen telling you it's on.
It's fucking annoying looking anywhere on the screen and seeing this annoying led light.
If you have this problem put a small piece of black tape over it.

I just bought a Sony XBRITE 19" flat panel just under 6" deep. Problem in your situation is it was $800. But I never wanted to buy any of them because they all looked like shit. This one was worth the money.

Yeah - that's the one I got. It's nice because you can do subtle to extreme changes in the backlight for whatever lighting levels you have in the room. If you need it really bright it can be, and dark as well. Awesome monitor

Go for the 2005FPW or 2001FP!

The 2005FPW is not available in Canada yet. Dell/LG LCDs are pretty damn good, I personally own the 20" 2001FP and couldn't be happier, we also have the cheaper 19" E193FP, which I bought for my dad, and IMO, it's a killer deal at 450 CAD, certainly better then anything I could find locally here in Montreal. Oh and Dell has free shipping.

well... I don't know about you but the obvious solution to her problem might be to instead buy a new desk instead of a new monitor... You know... just maybe...

not that simple - it's a long desk with all her work on it, and it's measured to be as deep in as the wall partition. It wouldn't fit properly if it was any thicker.
