i'm surprised they don't have them in case there's a freak thunderstorm or they get blown off. Maybe they'd be too cumbersome.

I would climb to the top of that tower if I had safety equipment. Free climbing, I would not do.

I always thought they turned off the power to power lines before maintenance and inspections. That's amazing!

Tower climbing, no problem. Carousing on HV lines...I don't know about that shit.

Understanding the priciples of electricity, I'd be more comfortable dealing with high wire lines. With the proper safety measures of course... I wouldn't want to do that job but I'd take it over tower climbing. I can clearly say there's no way I could transition to the outside of a transmission tower let alone free climb any part of it.

Yep  I'm an industrial electrician, have been chewing over the idea of doing the power lineman thing for a while now, just as something new for a bit. but when i first saw that video, i knew i wanted to try it. did some calling around to the local supply authorities, found out it's 2 years of training before you get to do the cool stuff. We'll see.

If you were to fall off the top, how long would it take for you to fall all the way down? That would be awful, that you just have the time to think about how you're going to die and knowing there's nothing you can do to stop it.

you'd have about 10 seconds to think about why you took the job, plenty of time for fear to settle in!

As long as the bolt has two or more threads into the nut, yer fine. They are plenty strong enough to support the weight of a man, unless you've packed on a few... like GFY or DB. :smirk: It's always good to make sure they're secure before you put yer full weight on em.
