Do you use any writing to document conversion apps? If so, can you recommend an accurate one? The last thing holding me back from buying one is the ability to use it efficiently for class and conference notes.

Have one, company present. It's okay actually, and I'm saying that as an Apple hater. Beats having to flip open the laptop every time you want to look up something. It's also a pretty good e-reader if you install Stanza.

Ah yes, but if you have a rooted Evo with working wireless tethering...PWNT. Too bad I don't have an iPad. SELF-PWNT.

I considered buying an iPad earlier this year and while it's kinda cool with the touch screen and not having to "flip it open" to do shit with it, I honestly prefer my HP netbook over it hands down.
The netbook is the same size & weight, has more functionality (webcam, USB) and is IMHO more practical (160 GB drive for a alot of movies/tv shows, Photoshop, Maya and a ton of games I can play) and I can install whatever the hell I want on it and don't have to have approval from the Apple DRM gods. And...I don't have to wait for iPad version 2 to use Skype.
Dunno...I'm still under the impression that the iPad is not much more than a glorified iPhone.

GKY: its not meant as a replacement for a laptop, but rather a supplement.
ie you stream movies to it from your main computer to compensate for the lack of hdd space.
i personally also thought it was just an iphone (which i dont like btw) but its really pretty awesome as an organizer+. with useless games - and some full fledged like civilization and rockband.
@tormentius: it was only a day old so we didnt have any apps on it yet, so we just used its notepad app. the keyboard in landscape mode works really well and is very responsive.

Actually I never thought of my netbook as a replacement for a laptop, either. I think of it as a really lightweight, portable unit that supplements my desktop and instead of playing useless games I can play really good games (RTCW, Jedi Academy, Half Life, NFS, Homeworld, etc).
Even if you live, eat and shit portableness (if you own a laptop only) the netbook is still a better supplement IMO.
Besides, from the three iPad owners that I've met at airports, it seems the biggest reason they bought the thing was to simply brag about having bought the thing.

don't have one personally, but i've played with a relative's. s'ok. it would be monumentally better with even one USB port. why no USB port? well, so they can force you to buy their own over-priced accessories and/or their dock.

iPad 3G plans are no contract here in Canada. Just pay as you go. They're pretty cool. I took a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab and it's absolute shit compared to the iPad.

I have one. Very convenient for sharing shots with clients while meeting them at various locations. Didn't get the 3G because I use it in places with WiFi access most of the time and I thought it was a joke that I couldn't use it with my current 3G contract with ATT.

We used one at my previous company for presentations and stuff, they're pretty good for that. If there's only a few people of course, otherwise the classic method of beamer usage is obviously superior.
