Killzone 3

Did anyone buy or rent it?

The story is really bad but for a string of one set battle after another the game isn't bad. They added a couple stealth/sniper type missions as well.
Graphics are great and some of the bigger battles are pretty epic in their scale and the amount of shit happening on screen at once is impressive.

The designers really didn't want you to ever worry about conserving ammo, so you can pretty much unleash hell nonstop. Bolt gun = win.

I snagged it. I've been playing via the move and the only part I didn't like was the jet pack section. Everything else has been crazy shooting setpiece after crazy shooting setpiece.

Never been into the Killzone games...they look lovely but I can't get on with them as shooters :/

Played about an hour or so of it.

Its better than 2, both in looks, gameplay and control, and thats a plus... But I just don't get on with the PS3 pad for FPS games :( Move, however... Feels nicer, much nicer. But its still no mouse/keyboard, and the delay (Which oddly only seems present in this?) kills it a bit.

I like the Xbox's triggers and bumpers much better than the dual button setup on the back of the PS3 controllers - it feels awkward when you are in situations where you have to use the lower and upper buttons a lot in the same situation.

Just finished it last night. Played it on Veteran the first time through and the difficult was not bad - there were a few cheap parts that just took some dumb luck to get through, but they were few and far between. The levels where you lose gravity were done pretty well but I can't see how my guys were able to keep running along the ground while trying to restore gravity...maybe they had heavy boots on or something...They tried to come up with a story involving deep political and military intrigue and failed bad, and Malcom McDowell is used in too many video games.

I just got it with the PS3 Move and the Sharpshooter gun. Shits charging and stuff so I haven't played yet.

Just played multiplayer for awhile. Feels about the same as every other multiplayer on a console with a variety of powerups that aren't balanced very well.

Other issue - there is no team balancing function, so half the games I played in were off by 2 or more players. I noticed that the clan kids tended to stick together in teams of 6-8 against 4 or so noobs and then talk each other up in the lounge about their kill/death ratios.

I feel like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest trying to use the PS3 controller for a fast paced deathmatch.

Every sequel must expand upon its predecessor, and Killzone 3 does not disappoint: Error 9, actually Error 9-, lets me know before every game that it won't be tracking my experience points, and am I okay with that? For the record: no. But this is better than the other errors I get, like this winner:

The world is full, it is not possible to join. (-948)

Or this Captain of Fucking Industry:

A NETWORK RELATED ERROR HAS OCCURRED
Essential game objects lost.
Error Code 10006

Sometimes I'll come back from one of these and the box is hardlocked and I'll need to restart, but I don't know why I should, because when I turn it back on these errors haven't gone anywhere. For a First Party excursion, this stuff is pretty shocking.

The sharpshooter move stuff sucks only slightly less than the Wii. Controlling an FPS like that is just too unwieldy and holding up a gun gets tiring.

My brother's a huge Killzone fan so I'll just borrow it off him once he's done. I played the demo though, and it's a very pretty game. Just very dull as most recent shooters have tended to be and of course the console controller kills the entire experience for me. I'll buy one of those mouse/keyboard thingamabobs some day.

With a good surround system the set-piece battles are loud, mindless, violent fun. I wish there was more bodypart specific damage like arms or legs or head being blown clean off though. The game is the classic action movie of video games - not going to blow you away with the writing, but a good diversion for the few hours that the SP campaign takes.

I was able to blow guys heads clean off with the larger guns. The assault rifles aren't going to do it though.
