GTKRadiant 1.5 AND UberRadiant troubles

I know I already have an open topic, but I may as well have multiple running. I have a problem with GTKRadiant 1.5 where it lags to the point where it's completely unusable. I mean the grid works, but for some reason when I go to make a box it doesn't appear for about 20 seconds. The grid size and grid scroll experience the same lag. Also, I can map in UberRadiant, however when I compile it gives me a crash error (the "has stopped working" error) and refuses to finish compiling. Can someone help me with one or both of these please?

What kind of GPU do you have?
You sure your computer doesn't have some other background process running and taking up CPU cycles?

also, what os you running?
if ya running vista or win7 dont forget to disable visual themes and aero if you want it to run right. also if you have been browsing large quantities of textures (i mean heaps) ive noticed it does start to chung a little. restarting gtk will fix it.
as for compiling. try using q3map2toolz a handy front end compiler :

UPDATE: I just realized that the blackness is just because I ran it in 256 colours as a test and then forgot to disable that. My other questions still stand though

Windows Aero:

You might want to see the FAQ:
http://robotrenegade.com/radiant/faq.html
Why are you using UberRadiant? It's a completely separate branch and no one here uses it and it probably doesn't have proper support channels anymore. I don't think it even supports EF. When was that program even last updated, isn't Ritual more or less defunct? Why not just answer our questions above and see if you can get GtkRadiant working?

Ok, I got GTKRadiant working to the point of actually editing smoothly! New problem. It won't save. The console provides an error along the lines of "Couldn't open file (directory here)No Brushes Selected To Write" I've had the problem before but forgot how I fixed it :l. I know I have all the disable setting on (disable visual themes, disable desktop composition, disable display settings on high DPI settings). How do I fix this??

It's also on the FAQ page, starting from the 3rd paragraph under "Windows Vista and Windows 7 Users". If you were to search the forum, there was another thread about the exact same issue.

Try creating an empty text file in your maps directory and renaming the extension to .map. Then save to that file.

I'm doing a workaround. I used an exisiting map and deleted all brushes. Saved that map, copied it over to a writeable folder and renamed it. Copied it back and started to work on my new map with savingopportunities. After each time I'm done with mapping I copy the new mapfile into the folder again, rename it to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc. and do the same copy-thing on the next time I want to map.
Where did you install/move the files?

sounds very time consuming Bliccer. To answer your question, I just moved them out of Program Files(x86) and now the directory SHOULD be "D:\Raven\Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force\BaseEF\maps" or similar for GTKRadiant 1.5.
Obsidian: by save to that file, do you mean creating a mapfile called "mapname.map" as a notepad application, then saving my mapname to that application? I'm just going to try that and see if it works, and if not, I'll try Bliccer's workaround
Again, here's hoping

Right click in directory, New > text document, rename it to mymap.map, start Radiant, open, do stuff, save.

Neither worked, surprisingly. I created a new text document, typed in EXACTLY "derr_map.map", and tried to save my map as "derr_map" and then "derr_map.map", but both failed. I then created a folder on my desktop named "EFmaps", opened "_brig.map", deleted EVERY brush, and attempted to save it in the EFmaps folder, but I still got a write error! ACK! I figured attempting to override a save in a folder that won't write will not work, so I didn't even try that.

Or try this:
under Edit > Preferences go to Interface > Layout and toggle the setting "use win32 file load dialog".
I have the option disabled here. I remember it gave me similar problems when I had it enabled as well. If you already have it disabled, maybe give it a go when the option is enabled.

HALLELUJAH! I tried eraser's hint, and it worked! IT SAVED!!!!!! My only concern is that afterwards I checked the console and it had a warning "WARNING: no module found for map interface type ''." (that's not a new face, that is literally, without the space for clarification, " .") Then again, my map is currently empty, but HALLELUJAH!

What version are you using, Eraser? Could you test this with 1.6?
