Prey 2

Now this would be good if and when it happens, I loved the original.

"French website NoFrag has a cover image of the next issue of French gaming magazine Joystick, which shows their cover story to be a Prey 2 reveal, indicating a follow-up is in the works to the first-person shooter. There are no details yet, but the accompanying blurb says "personne ne l'attendait mais ca va changer!" NoFrag helped us with a translation, saying this means "Nobody was expecting it, but that's going to change!" The original Prey was developed by Human Head Studios for now mostly defunct 3D Realms, but the rights to the franchise now belong to id Software and Bethesda Softworks parent company Zenimax."

I was expecting Prey 1 to be disappointing, but was pleasantly surprised. It's worth a play.

If true, I wonder who will be developing Prey 2. Certainly not id, they have too much on their plate with Quake Live, Rage and Doom 4.

I enjoyed Prey as well. A sequel could be good. Why couldn't Human Head Studios develop the sequel as well? Or are they defunct now as well?

Ahah, because, well, ahum, they in fact... are developing it:
Bethesda has signed Prey 2, a sequel developed by Human Head.

The game's due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next year.

Oh... I thought Human Head was dead. Good to see they're still at it. It's using idTech (4) hopefully they did some renderer updates or it's going to look a bit dated.

It's no strange idea, as since the release of Prey, they haven't been doing much at all. Or at least, they haven't released anything at all.

The first one was rather meh imo. Too gimmicky, and I never liked that spirit walking crap.

Still seems a bit early for id to be licensing their new engine out when Rage isn't even done. Brink for instance is running off a heavily modified idTech 4 engine. Anyway, we'll see.

Naw, false alarm, devs confirmed earlier its tech4 but really enhanced, so yeah like a Brink job.

I hope they continue Tommy's story since it was originally meant to have a sequel. I have my doubts though.

Think the first Prey was a pretty decent game.
Wouldn't dismiss the gravity/spirit walking stuff as just gimmicky; they were well implemented and created some pretty interesting game mechanics.

Not too bothered about idtech4 being used, either;
That tech is, what, 4 years old, and I don't think the most of it has yet been made. Still a lot of potential there.

7 years. Doom 3 is from 2004.

Brink is a new released and still using a modified idTech 4 engine. Call of Duty I believe is still using a modified idTech 3 engine (Q3).

This game is going to be epic.
I wonder if they're still going to keep the rotational thing in the game where ceilings become floors and vice versa.

Good point and well spotted. Hmm, well, it is apparently intended for PC too according to earlier write ups, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

edit: ah, apparently in an interview one of the devs said it was being made for PC, so that's good.

From what I've read, it's an exploration of the concept of "Prey", where in the original you and yours were very much the prey, this time you're the predator. It was completely off my radar until RPS did a feature on it, at which point it leapt to the forefront of my anticipation, and this latest trailer, while not of gameplay, displays some excellent ideas. I just hope they translate to the game.

Hmm... so no multiplayer (oh well, looks like an interesting single player game). I think coop would have been cool if the second player could play as Tommy.

If you didn't play Prey 1, you just won't undertand this game at all, its linked so much with the first...

j/k it could have been called "Super Happy Hunting Times" for all you should care, its nowt like the first.

But the first was a cracking shooter and is found in bargain bins the world over. I paid 99p for mine, and the key was legit for Steam activation, too. Cracking FPS, very underrated.
