Metro: Last Light

The original Metro 2033 is a bit of a cult classic and really impressed me when I finished it about a month or so ago. I originally installed it when it first came out, but it absolutely killed my PC and the outdoor sections ran at about 10 FPS. Since I now have an i7/GTX 580 and all that other goodness, it ran flawlessly and looked incredible. Some of the best atmosphere in any video game i've played. Shame the shooting mechanics were a bit gash.

Anyway the sequel is coming and it aims to fix this very point. Check out this video of the Nazi camp:

Looks incredible. I hope it's not completely cod-ified and still retains that Ukrainian identity it had, but they look to be on the right track

Moby: Last Night

I'm in the same camp of "it (the first one) murdered my PC back then." I haven't revisited it yet.

The only part that was lame was when the guy was pushing through the crowd. Each one of the guys that moved out of the way immediately went into statue mode.

Other than that, it borders on brilliant.

So when did Nazis begin speaking Russian?

Well technically they're neo nazi's, see.

Also, damn that looks nice. Thought the last metro was one of the most underrated, beautiful and brutal shooters i've ever played. So brutal it's been putting me off every time i consider giving it another playthrough even, but it's an absolute gem of a game all the same. Will probably end up getting this

Metro 2033 is a rough diamond indeed.

And yeah, the original is set in 2033, so they are a Russian bastardised version of neo-nazi's from a post-nuclear apocalypse future. They're also a pain in the ass, mainly cos the gunplay was pretty weak in the original. Hopefully this time they won't take 1000 bullets to kill.

Metro 2033 is dirt cheap on Steam today. Worth picking up if you haven't played it yet (and your PC can handle it)

The only fault I found with the first game is that it costs a fair penny to upgrade your guns and currency is always in short supply. But then you only get to carry two guns with you so as soon as you swap out guns to try something new, you loose your upgraded gun. That essentially lead me to play the game with just two guns and never touch anything else. Rather limiting and shitty game design.

I think this can be remedied by either making multiple gun slots so you can carry one of each type of gun (one pistol, one smg, one rifle, one shotgun), or providing various repeatable side quests at each station so that you can earn more currency to re-purchase upgrades for when you change guns. The latter is probably a better idea as it also means you at least stand a chance when you are low on currency and the next mission is a surface level. There's nothing worse than being low on filters and not having any money to buy more. It just makes the next level nearly impossible to play.

Hopefully this is fixed in Last Light. Despite some of the flaws of the first one, it's still an excellent game.

Metro 2033 was absolute shit that I uninstalled about 2 hours into the game. It's the perfect example of a "modern game" that all those parody videos are making fun of:

It didn't have the "Rank up! Master Sargent Sargent Sargent Sargent Of The Sargent At Arms" bullshit but the predictable and boring segments (even the forced slow-mo) that is in every "modern game" at first made me laugh, then it annoyed me and then it simply pissed me off.

Fuck the Metro franchise

The game has great atmosphere and that's it.
