this is too slow,... at least double the traffic would be preferred, but not 3, 4 times as much ....i might as well be spamming on reddit.

Seriously though, there's probably ways we could increase traffic.

We could all join another community and take it over.

We could (god forbid) change the name and look of this place to entice new members.

We could create new forum categories to create traffic flow.

There's really a number of things. And I'm sure there will be some "fuck you"s and some reluctance to change anything. But I'd hate to see this place fizzle into nothing after having it be a part of our lives for over a decade...

Quake 3 came out 12 years ago. Anything short of a whole new site won't work.

I have to admit, though, that Q3W has been my home page since I registered here in '01.

People aren't posting topics enough. I noticed that when there is a new topic, it gets replies, so the activity is there.

Yeah, the more the merrier, but I don't know how we are going to attract more people to a forum for a game that even most of the few posters don't play.

I miss the hive of activity this place used to be.

Still, there's no other place on the internet that has that Q3W quality.

We could give the forum a new name, with the purpose of General Discussion and allow people to change their icons/avatars, I think that's something people look for in a forum.

You need to change the frontend so it's a site for more games than just Q3, maybe.

TBH I've looked for and posted on other specialist interest forums before cause the interests of this forum have become so narrow and the posters so consistently narrow-minded and persistantly replulsive at times. Still, like I said, Q3W has quality topics to offer that other forums don't (and posters). So, I keep visiting Q3W but I can see why people have left I think.

You look at a forum like SRK*, where there are loads of subforums and posters but they are almost all fuckwads. I don't remember Q3W ever being that bad when it was very active and busy. (I don't post there, BTW.)

I think the thing is; when there were loads of posters (on Q3W), you could post something and it would be a common interest for some people on the forum. Now there are much less posters, you post something you are just going to get heckled most of the time, so you better post it on a forum where people that are interested in that thing go to specifically for. I held back some topics from Q3W cause I thought they would not go down well, whereas when I posted them on other forums instead, they were fine. I guess too many people on Q3W have got a chip on thier shoulder and are putting people off posting.

You almost make it a task to drive people away, asking for "meltdowns", etc. but if you drive loads of people away, you won't have people to post to on the forum

Basically, the place has become too hostile to attract lots of posters. It's survival of the fittest, I know, but it looks like Q3W has suffered a massacre with the huge drop in the number of posters.

rubbish. what really culled the numbers was the 6 months of downtime back in 2004/05. loads of people thought the place had died for good, never found out about raw3world, and subsequently never came back. Q3W contained even more bitter, twisted fucks before the downtime than after, so 'hostility' explains nothing

besides, driving out idiots like Pete, Keep It Real and Peenyuh hardly counts as a massacre. more like an enema

I can, however, understand why you feel the way you do as you are a target more often than other posters. Just sayin...
But don't let the fact that Q3W treats idiocy harsher and a lot less PC than other forums convince you that Q3W is a minefield for new members.

It would be a bonus if we had more active members, but short of telling all we meet (online at least) to come join the fun I can't see a way of increasing membership atm. Thinking.....

I disagree, you see what happened when r&r and qwfix were combined. It reverted to the amount of traffic that r&r had and killed the traffic from fix which was arguably quite a bit more.
