Err not to steal from the other topic: Helpless chinese man attacked and jumped by 7 others, but get a look at this news item tonight here in the land of OZ.
Are motorists who fly Australian flags on their cars this Australia Day being patriotic or racist? According to new research, there is a link between flying the flag and holding racist values.
link

So I ask, can you people elsewhere on this planet fly your country flag freely?

As an individual you can't actually officially fly the dutchee flag (i mean a proper one) without special permission or a national holiday i don't think, not entirely sure. I don't know exactly why that is, and it´s not enforced - but i'd agree there is a link between nationalism and racist values.

Still voted who cares, since i do not.

As a german, I am racist per sé.

If I wave a flag, everybody will expect a Blitzkrieg.

Thats one of those moronic outdated laws from the dark ages that noone bothered to revise, like there is probably some law that says you cant wear a hat on Sundays.

I tend to think of the Canadian flag as being representative of multiculturalism. At least that's my perspective here in Toronto where a multicultural Canada is celebrated. Though it's probably very different if you live in White City, Saskatchewan. :dork:

Yeah sure, I celebrate every time I get behind the wheel and some Asian guy cuts me off.

Can you fly your country flag without being called a racist?
sure, unless your country flag is the swastika

tbh whiskey you should mellow out about this shit. if australia has reached a point where flying the national flag is considered potentially racist, you have bigger things to worry about than a coloured bedsheet on a pole

here in the US I have met enough of them and I would officially bet both of my nuts that you're a racist (and possibly white trash) if you have a flag in front of your home. So my answer is yes.

what a ridiculous thing to do in the first place. You're flying the flag of the country you are currently in (and everyone else around you). Please explain to me, what is the point in that, other than some closeted double meaning?

maybe it's so that when joe sixpack comes home from losing his job to mexicans, finds his house being repossessed and a stack of medical bills waiting in the mailbox, it reminds him that he lives in the Land of the Free

Dictionary,com meaning (there are more)

race
1. a group of people of common ancestry, distinguished from others by physical characteristics, such as hair type, colour of eyes and skin, stature, etc. Principal races are Caucasoid, Mongoloid, and Negroid
2. the human race = human beings collectively

So the answer is plainly the human race is a collective of other races :smirk: including my Asian friends and those of slightly darker skin pigment..

Still I think you should be able to fly the flag of your country freely. Thanks for the opinions

Being from one of the former colonies [one that was exploited rapaciously], monarchists never made sense to me until very recently. I was having this discussion with someone and they put it very simply: monarchists wouldn't vote for a republic because they are Brits themselves [or consider themselves to be]. Despite the origins of Australia as a penal colony, the fact that all that was a very long time ago and that these people are "Australian" many generations over, a lot of Anglos still identify "ethnically" with the old country, and therefore still support the throne.

I would have thought this meant that monarchist support would decline over the years with immigration etc. but evidently support for a change to a republic is the lowest it's been in a while. Fucking weird.

Alternately, I could have no idea what I'm talking about.
