Work: You go on holidays, does you Manager have you replaced

I ask because I've been off work only 4 days and have come back to a
shipload of work.
No one replaced me or my duties
I have to catch up, or then again, do I?
Add comment if you feel you need to catch up on work not done while you are off on leave, long or short
signed
Just interested

Um no not really. My manager just takes vacations into account when making a planning.
Then again, I work on clearly defined projects with a start and an end point, not assembly line type of work where there's a continuous flow of input that I have to process.

I’ll be going to Thailand for a full month at the end of july (fucking yay!), the plan is that my 3 direct collegues will distribute my work and my boss will handle everything they don’t understand.
I sort of carved out my own little imperium over the time i've worked here (self protection, i want to make myself immune to the coming budget cuts) and i have to say i'm quite curious to see how they will cope with my not being there for a month. On the one hand i fear everything will go to shit and i'll have my work cut out for me when i get back, on the other hand i fear they'll easily manage and it won't be a problem - in which case i should possibly start worrying about those cuts...

Because the weather/ocean conditions will be horrible, it's the wet season and the entire country will be running at about 10% (eg any island you go to - most of it will be entirely shut).

Oh lol for fuck sake, of course
The drawback of dating a teacher, she could only book in the school vacation period... goddamnit. Ah well, at least it's warm rain eh - and mostly it lasts only an hour every day i think?

I've gotten myself into the good yet unfortunate situation of appearing to be irreplaceable. Anything they want me to work on sits until I can get to it.

Yes would appear so. Thanks for the votes: Appears not many are replaced like in days of old.
Someone once told me to volunteer for everything, appear keen etc and you'll last long in a role whatever it be.
I'd like to think I'm irreplaceable but accept no one really is

and I seem to be in that position too bitWISE.
As for planning for leave, they don't bother except to make sure not too many are off at the one time as the other poor souls left trudge on.
Edit:spelling

If your employer won't miss you for a month, then they don't need you.
Just sayin...

Not to piss on your parade but I've had 2 friends (in 2 totally unrelated fields) who insisted they were "irreplaceable at work" and were downsized within weeks of telling me they were "irreplaceable". It can happen to anyone. There is no such thing as job security anymore.
