Can't really blame them.
Why start a new IP when there's still some vapor in that cow's teet to milk?
Bobby Kotick is a smart, calculating farmer preying on zombies who like to have the same gaming experience for 20+ times, and want to fork over the cash for it.

why not something before gun powder was put in use? how come there aren't any cool combat focused sword based multiplayers?... you can have the occasional fireball catapults, throwing knives, bow and arrows for the extra umf... chariots for long distance mobility.

Would that be too boring of a gameplay? I think it's just that nobody has bothered to do one, with some actual thought behind the game mechanics. But if done right (like anything else which is done right) it will be an engaging and refreshing bit of gameplay.

fps melee is wank

i like my steampunk shooter idea better (though bioshock kind of did some of it already)

I just don't see your idea serving a purpose. The game mechanics will be exactly as they are for modern fps's with simply diff models, sounds and attire. So what would be the point? I guess as a "that would be kinda cool" idea it'll be ok, but it doesn't really address the "yet another COD" argument. Might as well make yet another COD with diff. locations and weapon models, as they are already doing for the 30th time.

Except at some point the player base went from lightsaber dueling to chat-based role-playing. Every server was just a bunch of retards standing in a circle typing out their twisted intergalactic fantasies.

Much lulz (and bans) were had when you disrupted their circlejerks with a well-placed push :ninja:
