The other "what if this game was made in the current generation" videos criticize our current games by highlighting the differences between the old classics and the current hits. This video is just SMB with different graphical effects and different sounds for no reason. Not entertaining, witty, or poignant in the least.
fuck u...

You didn't notice the gore? Also you could say that modern games have different graphical effects "for no reason", or little reason other than to dazzle.

Gore is a graphical effect

I call gore a result. Not a graphical effect. If you wanted to be pedantic you could call result and effect the same thing, but we weren't being pedantic we were talking about the differences in modern games.

I haven't got the faintest clue what you are talking about with your "result". Gore is just a graphical effect that adds nothing to the gameplay mechanics of a game (exceptions like Dead Space's dismemberment are noted).

I call DTS a result. A result of a horrible decision by sick people.

Gore is realism, it's not like some fireworks to look pretty in a game. If you don't see the realism of the end of that video, you must be blinded by your Mario fanaticism.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH
By the way, if what you're trying to say is that the video's purpose is to highlight how violent today's games are, I'm pretty sure no one's given a fuck for about fifteen years or so.

I think he's saying the video is highly realistic because there is blood in it, which he then contrasts to fireworks despite the blood looking exactly like a rather drab piece of fireworks.

I think you are quite possibly the least interesting person I've ever encountered. I really mean that.

Did you and your 'someone' discuss this one too? I mean, can you really be this dense?

DTS, I think maybe my perception of you being so far off the mark might come from you misunderstanding my original post's point.
I can't believe I actually have to spell this out for you.

That's the "if Quake were made today" video. It's a critique of today's FPS games that highlights how they're different from the FPSs of the '90s. Though it's not particularly well-done, the message is clear: the criticism is poignant -- relevant, and clearly illustrated and understood. The SMB video you linked is none of these things. It doesn't really make a point. It doesn't really have a message. It's SMB with some new sound effects and graphical effects and since you insist, "realism." Why? It's not witty, it doesn't address anything, and the new additions (graphics/sounds) don't illuminate anything interesting about either modern games or the original SMB. I don't see why the video exists, other than a tech demo for manipulating 8-bit graphics, but even in that regard, it fails splendidly.

Mogul, in the video's defense, my impression was that it was just a 3D animation hobby project from some hobbyist modeler. No underlying message or critcism on the gaming industry or something.
