RAM question

I have 512mbs of 266mhz pc2100 DDR memory. I want to change to 1024mbs of 333mhz pc2700 DDR. I know my motherboard is capable of that. My question do I need to change anything in the bios or will it detect the new RAM correctly, and change the clock by itself?

Well it should work if change the old for the new, you will most likely want to check your BIOS afterwards to see if the CPU:RAM is at a 1:1 ratio or other due to faster RAM

it should detect it correctly.. the motherbord will run it at the slowest of the speeds between the ram sticks.. so if you upgrade witha DDR333 stick, it will only run at 266... But you still get the 512megs.

You realize, of course, that you are throwing your money away on the sdram. You have an older system, as evidenced by the Ram and if your system dies the SDRam that you just bought is useless.
All the new boards run ONLY DDR, so the SDRam is of no use. Used to be able to buy boards that would run both, but as far as I know, that is not the case now. Unless you can find a used board.
I don't know where you are, but around here a stick of 128 SDRam is around the $100 Cdn range.
Looking to put a GB of SDRam in there and you are halfway to a new system.
