so i take my car for an oil chance, and the mechanic also took it for a test drive. now my muffler seems louder under acceleration. I mean wtf am i loosing my mind? I hate to be one of those people, but my car does sound louder now. What could they have possibly fucked up during an oil change? Could overfilling il cause such increase in noise? did the moron who drove it , possibly pushed it too hard and busted something?

Have a real mechanic check it out, if your current one cares fuck all.

that's just the thing.. I am terrified of these fukers... every time I bring it in for routine stuff, like oil changes, alignments etc., something else seems to fucking brake on it.

What will stop another mechanic from running up a $1000 dollar bill just to sell me something, cause clearly I am going there looking to find a problem where there might be none.... considering most people only go to a mechanic when the car is not drive able.

Why would someone take your car for a drive after an oil change? If he ran over something that hit your exhaust system your car may sound louder.

I also got the two front tires balanced... so he was checking out his work.... which actually turned out to be shit also... car still vibrates at 60mph.

So is this guy a geniuine fuckhead that i was dealing with? also last time I went to another place for a tire change, they bent my rim... wtf, I think I'm gonna go get me a fucking bicycle ... I'm sick and tired of dealing with shitty mechanics and the auto industry all together.

Could he have pushed the car too much during his drive and cause a louder muffler? other than actually bottoming the car out and busting my muffler?

Your mechanic sounds like shit. Find a reputable one. Yelp might help you out (it does where I live).

well lets look at the evidence...

3 jobs done and 3 jobs fucked - exhaust, crap tracking and a bent rim, I think you should be asking for refund or handing out a kick in the bawls :]

That said, can't see how a routine oil change would make the exhaust louder, it's blowing yea ?, any ideas where the sounds coming from ?, unless he jacked it up in a retarded place, or banged it on a test drive, I cant really see how he would've caused a hole in the exhaust ?. Get underneath see if you can see anything, check for deep rust also and broken clamps, if its coming from the engine bay then check the manifold, but if it was anything to do with that it'd probaly be deafening.

Take the car back and complain. Maybe you'll get your money back. I can't stand having to trust mechanics. That's why I buy new every 3 years. Nothing usually breaks and if it does, it's covered under warranty.

He should've really advised you about a blowing exhaust n all, especially if he took it for a test drive. Strange...

lol

Could be a different oil grade ?, sometimes if someones put in a thin oil grade on a well used engine it can change the noise ?, although it doesn't make it any louder, just makes it sound a bit more, erm, mechanical ?, lol

k the bent rim just as i clarified on that post was at a diff. place. there are no reputable mechanics here. the bent rim was done by a brand new, huge "good year" place... how much more reputable do you want me to get? go the Mitsubishi dealer?

Also, the car has only 30,000 miles on it... everything on it looks brand new...so I doubt rust all of a sudden did the trick.

the jacking up theory sounds possible too... will have to try to look under there.

k I just looked under there, no jacking or bottoming out on the muffler as far as I can tell.... thing looks like it was installed yesterday.

Also, with the idea of the wrong oil, or oil level being out of a question wtf is there left?

Well I know if you use an un recommended oil type on particular cars it doesn't end well, not sure if your car requires a specific brand/grade of oil ?. If it's anything like that though, the noise would be coming from the engine and not the exhaust. I doubt it'd make it louder either, just different, like 'tappy' or 'clunky'.

On the flipside, if the noise is coming from the engine bay (or close to the font) and you can hear yourself talk, it's probably not the exhaust.

And that, they don't respond well to knocks :/, although you usually find out about them at your next emissions test

Very sorry but I didn't read any of the thread. I just noticed someone had an issue and thought the best way to solve it was to get them to buy a new, different thing to whatever they had...

"Reading" also implies a certain level of comprehension.
