I'm a huge fan of space sims, I'll probably lose a few years in this game.

Looking at all the high quality games we at Frontier have produced, from RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 to Kinectimals to LostWinds to Disneyland Adventures
lol
Looks interesting enough, but StarControl II is the best space sim/rpg of all time.

Yes I have always wanted to get involved in these sorts of games and this does sound promising.

Jesus christ...that's their business model...to beg for cash? From David Braben? The guy who thinks second-hand games are ruining the industry? The same moron who, like the infamous George Broussard, constantly changes his mind mid-production and throws months of work away? Someone who, if you work for him, you're 100% guaranteed to get laid off?
Fuck off...anyone who gives that fool money should just set it on fire.

I give none of my shits what he's like to work for or where the funds come from. I'd play the game.

lol shithead
The point I'm making is that he can't be trusted with your money to actually make the game. If it comes out then I'll admit that I was wrong...
...but I doubt it'll come out.

I get GFY's point. There are a lot of people out there who want to make a video game and not a lot of people who succeed. Indie games might be the current buzzword for investors, but very few projects ever make it in reality. I would be a little hesitant to contribute to most of these companies unless I can see a significant amount of process has been reached. In the video, I see some concept art, but no functional gameplay, engine or actual game assets. This tells me that the game is only in the "ideas" phase and no actual development has taken place. It's why Duke Nukem Forever bounced around for so long, it was constantly cycling in ideas and concepts and never very far into development.
An example of this is just the sheer number of people who register an account here and start posting in LEM about how they have a great idea for a Quake 3 mod or map and how they are looking for people to help contribute to this project. Those of us who have been around for a while just roll our eyes and tell them to come back when they have at least a basic working concept of what they have in mind. Do date, I have never, ever seen any of these people come back with anything.
The golden rule here is that ideas a dime a dozen. Every single game developer has more ideas in their head than they can ever build because the actual development process is an extremely lengthy one, whether you are creating a single map or creating a mod or a whole game. Ideas simply aren't worth anything, and they aren't worth investing in. Once the idea progresses deep into development, then it might be worth reviewing his proposal.

that, and it's david braben. he's been spouting hot air and threatening elite clone authors for years.
maybe this raspberry pi stuff dragged him out from under his dark cloud. and to be fair, part of all that lay-off stuff was codemasters. trusting codemasters to follow through on publishing is like asking jesus to hold a marble for you.
this could be great, or it could be the most disappointing game of all time for anyone old enough to remember the NES/BBC/C64. i will buy it anyway.

It is well documented that Duke Nukem Forever was about 80% done many times before being completely re-done in a new engine. It went something like: Build engine, Quake 2 engine, Unreal engine, Doom 3 engine, release engine.
But I agree it was the constant changing of the goal posts that led to such a horrible developement time.
