Kim backed himself into a corner and now he can't get out. All this bluster was meant to bolster his image with his people, but if he doesn't follow through with his threats, he'll appear impotent. If he does follow through, NK will be turned to dust. Lose-lose.

I'm sure they're just making probing threats to see how much they can shake up their neighbours. It seems NK does this once every while to measure their epenis.

Also, I doubt if Kim actually has much to do with these threats, more likely his generals and advisers.
