Goof will enjoy this movie when it comes to DVD. Unfortunately he'll have 7 screaming kids throwing popcorn at his head and his wife telling him to change a diaper every 20 minutes.

They certainly continued the production design from Chronicles...which was leagues beyond Pitch Black.

I enjoy the franchise but there's nothing about this trailer that makes me want to see the new film....probably because they told then entire story in the trailer.

Pitch Black had soul though, for all it's shortcomings it was a rather charming little flick. Chronicles on the other hand was an overproduced entirely forgettable disaster... i can't remember the first goddamn thing about it. I'm not even interested enough in this one to click the trailer

I thought both were fantastic. Pitch Black was like the classic low budget sci fi horror done very well and Chronicles was its opposite twin to create the universe, loved it.

Can't see this being much of a hit for me though, it looks a return to Pitch Black on an abandoned planet with monsters. Although that's not a bad thing It's already been done and likely to have been done better.

I'm not watching the trailer cause I want the film to be all surprises (though I already knew it was going to return to being more like the first film).

I liked all the Riddick films and the Riddick character is pretty cool :) The original film was a dark tale with suspense and humour which made it good; more of that will be neato :)

There's also a cartoon set between two of the original films (thought there were 3?), made by Peter Chung. That has a clever little story, though it's a bit short and not as good as the live action films, but I recommend it.

In case you don't know, Peter Chung is the guy behind Aeon Flux (the cartoon not the fucked up cash-in film, avoid that) and he made an Animatrix epsisode (the one with the human's version of a virtual world) aswell as a short Tomb Raider cartoon.

There are going to be new Aeon Flux cartoon episodes, nothing to do with the film, keeping things like the original cartoon character-wise, and they are going to be longer cause the number one thing viewers said about the Riddick cartoon was it was too short. If you've seen the shorter Aeon Flux episodes (there were 2 sets, one of about 4 mins, one of about 22 mins), you'll know what I mean when I tell you that the new ones will have little dialogue and be more about stuff you see happening (kind of like halfway between the 2 types of episode, except longer than the ~22 mins long ones). They take years to make, though.

If you want to know more: They are not for TV broadcast, so they will be free of the restrictions of broadcast standards the originals were subject to (nudity, profanity, etc.). I am hoping for something like the quality of Akira, in terms of visual and audio, just cause I see the potential in Peter Chung's work, if he and those others working on these new episodes make a point of doing it to a high quality standard.

The technology exists to make something like Akira more easily now, so I don't think I am being overly optimistic. The robots in that Animatrix episode look pretty hgh standard, and Aeon Flux (the character) had a custom car; see Kaneda's bike in Akira :) Aeon Flux also had a helicopter (Akira had helicopters), an airship, robots, genetically engineered lifeforms... All this stuff will look better when made with the help of the technology now avaialable.

tl;dr:

Riddick good, Riddick cartoon too, from Aeon Flux cartoon creator, more Aeon Flux cartoons on their way and good.

Edit: Added tl;dr.

^ tl;dr

i enjoyed Chronicles: one of those movies that's fun to watch in spite of being total wank - like Doom or Under Siege 2.

also, inb4 20 years from now when 00s and 10s blockbuster movie trailers are all satirised with an opening 'booooom' followed by jump cuts and cheesy one-liners that essentially tell you the entire story

It looks pretty poorly made, as if they didn't get much of a budget for effects. I want to like it but don't have my hopes up.
