Great Allan Simonsen tribute by Porsche, even though he wasn’t driving for them (Simonsen was driving for Aston Martin).
I haven’t heard what caused Simonsen’s crash or how his injury was fatal. I believe the track was still damp at the time, so it was probably a driver error, but from the footage I’ve seen, it could also be a mechanical failure of some sort, especially when there was another car slowing down in front of him.
Btw, he was actually the pole sitter in his class, so that tells you something about the quality of his driving. When you’re driving at the limit, there will be times when you push over the edge. Even the very best crashes at times. If you don’t crash every now and then, you’re probably not pushing hard enough.
