You've probably heard about the recent terror attack on the climbing expedition in pakistan

basically a dozen taliban came and murdered a group of foreign climbers in cold blood. They dragged them from their tents after midnight, forced them to kneel, and executed them with shots to the head. Eleven were killed.
One man survived. His name is Zhang Jingchuan, and as you will soon discover, this man is a fucking HERO. He's 42 years old, and is ex military, where he was a reconnaissance specialist for the chinese army.
There is a chinese interview that a colleague read this morning, and I discussed the details with him in depth today.
What follows would probably not even pass for believable in a movie...
The attackers have them kneeling in two rows, with wrists bound behind their backs. Zhang is kneeling next to his friend. At first they thought it was a robbery, but Zhang clued into the fact that they were about to be executed. The attackers started stripping them of clothes and valuables. They removed Zhang's watch. During this, he was able to loosen the ropes, and plan an escape. He then hears the shots, and ducks his head at just the right time. The bullet aimed for his brain grazes the side of his skull. He frees his hands, knocks one of the attackers to the ground (or pushes him away, not sure), and sprints for his life.
Luckily for him, the guns were being worn around the attackers' necks with ropes, which made it difficult for them to aim. Coupled with the element of surprise and the cover of night, he frantically sprints away. About 50 feet ahead he sees a cliff edge, and just dives over it, not knowing whether it's 10 feet or 1000 feet. Keep in mind he is barefoot and I believe he was in his underwear.
The cliff ends up not being a fatal one, and he quickly looks around for a hiding spot, as the attackers are chasing him. He finds a crack in the ice, and hides there. Seconds later, the attackers catch up, but they don't find him.
He waits (not sure how long), and after a while, decides to crawl back to camp to see if he can find help (a major motivational factor was the risk of death due to hypothermia). He sneaks back to the tents, grabs clothes and a satellite phone, and looks for other survivors. They are all dead. He sees some dim lights nearby, and thinks that the attackers are still there. I'm not sure if they were, but he plays it safe, and calls for help, and is eventually rescued.
