UK blocks internet porn

David Cameron cracks down on online pornography.

I understand the intention of wanting to protect children from content that could potentially fuck them up.
But why block porn, but not disgusting gore, beheadings, shootings, stabbings, and other acts of violence that are far more scarring than sex?

More questions arise; what is considered porn? Who decides that?

In the end it's the parents' responsibility to monitor what their kids are watching.

And I don't want to have to register and get on some list because I like to whack off to porn from time to time.

It was only a matter of time before American-level stupidity seeped into other political systems....there's simply too much money to be made fucking people's rights over.
Yank idiocy has long-ago poisoned Canada's political system. Too bad we didn't have a fucking ocean between us.

It's not advice, though, it's the Government saying it will do the parenting instead of the parents, at the cost of the freedom of the populace.

Typical fascism from the Conservatives; bring on The Pirate Party! The Pirate Party seems to be the only one that supports internet freedom, or freedom of information in general. Shame they are only in Sweden. Lets hope they get an MEP and change EU law

I bet there's a Pirate Party in the UK as well? We got one here in the Netherlands. It's kind of insignificant, but it does exist.

Edit:
As I thought -> http://www.pirateparty.org.uk

it's retarded, but it's not that retarded since people can opt out of the filter. in itself it isn't exactly a dire threat to liberty

the real danger is how the 'success' of this policy is going to be measured. if there's some measurable policy goal here, such as a reduction in a rape, and that goal isn't achieved, it'll give the government and any other moral entrepreneurs (i.e. lobby groups, special interests) an excuse for mission creep. in fact, it almost comes across as a policy designed to fail for that very reason

Yeah, but knowing how information systems and social profiling works these days, you're probably tagged as a potential rapist when you opt out of the filters. It just begs the question: why isn't it a opt-in service?

Yes, mission creep is something I am always worried about when anything new is introduced. You can look at what they are trying to achieve then look at what might be on the cards if it is good or fails and you can see what might be coming down the road.

Aviva insurance is one I am keeping an eye on; use your mobile to prove how careful a driver you are by tracking how and where you drive...the same thing the gov talked about implementing years ago (for tax reasons/road tax per mile) but was shot down. Now an insurance company is trying it and our gov will be keeping a close eye on it and using it as a back door...

Don't real child pornographers just use the dark/deep web, anyway? What fucking good will any of this actually do?

Oh, that's right. None. GG tech-illiterate fucktards.

edit: Furthermore, with port-tunneling, MAC spoofing and/or proxies, this sort of shit would likely be pretty easy to get around even without calling your ISP and telling them you want to look at boobs, ya?

Exactly.

I can't see this being anything other than a political move, designed to gain support from his base. Sad to think that since the majority of people are rank fucking morons, this might actually go through.

I actually voted for them last time, they have some pretty good ideas. Especially liked their Ministry of Procurement concept, that could really save some serious money  The amount of taxpayer cash we throw away due to nothing other than lack of central planning and oversight is disturbing...

Too bad their front man is such an uncharismatic dude, guess that's what you get when a bunch of nerds pick a leader. They tend to go for capabilities and knowhow and forget all about the fact that politics has devolved into a goddamn game show these days.

Gov't in Canada tried to pull this same shit a while ago. Protecting children from online predators act, or some equally named sappy-fucking-horseshit. I actually sat down one evening and read the entire god damn act. Surveillance state bullshit. It made numerous changes to old acts (Criminal Code Act, etc.) so you had to go fucking chasing around this trail of spaghetti shit to even get a full idea of what the fuck these cunts were even trying to pull. Authorization for RCMP, Safety Minister, or his assistant (who can be any fucking person he sees fit) to warrantlessly tap any online communication and force your ISP to store your data stream for an indeterminate time. If the ISP refuses they will be fined/jailed. If you are tapped, and you explicitly ask your ISP of such, they are legally bound to not comment. "We can neither confirm nor deny." With the track record our piece of shit government has had with digital information breaches lately (recently thousands of personal medical documents were compromised because some fucking department thought compression was the same as encryption), it's honestly gut-wrenching to think of these fucking clowns having a massive server with tons of people's data sitting there. Not like the NSA doesn't already have all of it anyway :olo: I sent a letter to Vic Toews and the PM and politely told them "over my fucking dead body." Nine months later (not a joke) they sent me a photocopied .PDF file as a response. Pathetic.
