The Courtyard (map)

Hello again!

The last time, when I was there, I tried to make some "new" things with my favourite games ("connect" two of them), and tried to earn a lot of experience in modeling and map making, with Q3W.com. (I have not been much success.) :(

So, then I trow off my old project, and started a new one.

I'm posted it to Lvl , but I think it will takes a loooong time before they would publish my map (I don't want to hurt them, don't misunderstand me please).
Here you could download it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n0ulsnevdl5bt ... rtyard.zip (V2)

It's a final version of the map, with totally FREE resources (see in the txt file)
If you found missing textures, sounds, terrain blending problems, etc.. tell it to me please.

Hope you will enjoy it (really hope so). :toothy:

P.S.: I know... don't tell me please... the terrain is terrible. I promise, I will not make terrain's... >:D

Screenshots look good, I like the theme.

May install Q3 to check it out later.

There is no .exe file anywhere.
It's just a .zip file with a .pk3 file inside.
If your browser wants to download it as .exe file then maybe you could just rename it back to .zip and extract it as usual.

@Eraser
No :( It's downloaded as .exe with small file size ~94 kbytes (file size on download page displays as
26.6 megabytes).

I've downloaded the file and uploaded it to my own webhost. Try this URL:

http://www.theenginesofcreation.com/thecourtyard.zip

Please let me know when you've got the file downloaded so I can remove it again.

What to do, if you want to download the map:
Click on the "thecourtyard.zip" next to the yellow ticket, above the page.

What NOT to do... :
Don't click the green "Download" button, under the page.

I hope it will help you.

I think, you tried to download with the (wrong) green "Download" button... :)

I see, that's probably what he did.
This is one of the reasons why you shouldn't use download hosts like this. The actual download link is often obscured and hidden somewhere along other, more prominently visible download links that lead to stuff you don't need (or want).

Dropbox or Google Drive are good (and free) alternatives.

@Eraser
Thanks for your link.

@Martinus
Nice work, Now I not played with bosts, only single walked at map. Buildings looks nice. But white windows on them/.. dark would can look more atmospheric than these. And buildings wuth too much brightly (IMO).

Thanks, um... yeah, darker windows would be nice... but I did not want it.
Anyway, set your brightness level lower a bit. :)

Hmm... my r_gamma set as 1.0 and most of me played maps has normal brightness. In your map outdoor has normal brightness, and indoor part more brightly. Bit in not very critical ^)

What r_gamma value you recomended?

Also, may be i lamo, but i can't leave out from water in aquatory with LG. I can leave out from water there only with rocket jump.

Gave it a walk through. I agree with Doomer. You really need to nock down the lighting on the inside of the buildings
quite a bit. Its way to bright. Some textures are washing out particularly when you look into the pools where the LG
is. Also when I jumped into those pools I couldn't get out. The white windows are also too bright. I don't change my
settings to play maps. A map should be lit to look right at default setting as far as I'm concerned . Generally people
come here looking for input to improve on there maps not to get a review of one because they are impatient and
don't want to wait for one over at LvL . Sorry if I seem rude ,that's not my intent . I 'm just giving you my Honest
opinion. My advice is to fix the lighting and resubmit your map over at LvL. I'm sure Tig wont have any issues with
updating the file.

Okay, understood. I'll see what I can do.

Escaping the inside water... :

I always can get out from the water. There is a technique / trick, or wathever... (I was hoping that it does not need explaining.)
You need to find a corner in the water. Look up, and get swim up tighty in the corner. Ba Dum Tss, you are out from the water. :olo:
But... If I need to change something, I will "fix" the water...

I hear / read a lot of negative thing about my map... (on this side)
But I want to know the positive things as well (if it has...)

EDIT:

Image
Image
(contrasting them whit the shots in the first post)

-Fixed light's (not too bright) maybe...
-Fixed inside water problems
-Fixed some junction problems...

Opinion?

Please show two screenshots side by side - the old and the new lighting one place where there was a change brightness.

Maybe some of the windows on the distant (background) buildings still do dark (extinguished).

For me the positive thing - an attempt to create an atmosphere on the map and the combination of indoor and outdoor locations. And also the overall design of the location (not very cool architecture but decent).
